According to Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, the Boston Red Sox have promoted Franklin Arias to Triple-A, at long last.
The top prospect in the system has been terrorizing pitching in Double-A all season long and Red Sox fans have called for his promotion for months. Entering the year, the right-handed hitter was seen as a great defensive shortstop with elite bat-to-ball skills but not much power.
Arias had 18 home runs in 1,057 minor league plate appearances coming into the 2026 season. He smashed 19 homers in just 332 plate appearances in Double-A this year.
The power surged, and with it, so did the hype. Arias was now a can’t-miss prospect, but he was stuck in Double-A. Not anymore. Arias was certainly regarded as a fantastic prospect at the start of the season, but his added power has boosted him into the potential top prospect in baseball.

The 20-year-old slashed .318/.407/.587 with 17 doubles, one triple, and 19 home runs in 75 games with Portland this season. He drove in 52 runs, scored 50 more, and stole five bases. He led the team in homers, RBI, runs scored, batting average, and OBP. His added weight and muscle and his focus on power in the offseason have clearly translated well on the field.
It’s felt like time for Arias to be moved up to Triple-A for a while; however, there could be a few reasons for the long wait. The Red Sox have made it known that they view Double-A as the biggest developmental stage for prospects. Meanwhile, Triple-A is a bit more of a spot for depth for the major league roster.
Yes, development can still be done in Worcester. Boston wants those players to be ready to help the big league club, though. Therefore, it might not be the best spot for a prospect you don’t want to rush. That being said, Arias simply wasn’t getting tested at Double-A anymore. There was nothing left for him in Portland.
With the Red Sox recently promoting Mason White to Double-A, it felt like they were filling the spot that Arias would be leaving behind soon. The question simply became, when? On Thursday, we got our answer.
