The Boston Red Sox have promoted another hard-hitting middle infield prospect this season. However, it’s not the one you’re likely thinking of. According to Andrew Parker of SoxProspects, the Red Sox are sending Mason White to Double-A.
When the Red Sox drafted White in the fourth round of the 2025 MLB Draft, they were hoping they could add some home run power to a pretty swing. He clearly had the potential for it, but would they be able to unlock it? Now we have an answer (subscription required).
The left-handed-hitting second baseman slashed .270/.362/.525 with 14 doubles, three triples, and 14 home runs in High-A this season. He drove in 42 runs and scored 36 in 68 games.
White is striking out 22.3% of the time (which is slightly down from last season) and is walking 11% of the time (which is slightly up from last season). He’s also looked solid defensively while playing primarily second base (36 games there compared to 27 games at shortstop).

White, the Red Sox 2025 4th round pick out of Arizona, was swinging a hot bat in Greenville with 14 HRs and a .887 OPS.
With Maximus Martin returning from injury and potentially some of the draftees entering the fold soon, the Greenville roster was getting crowded, so it’s no surprise that White was promoted, especially with how well he has performed.
But his promotion is likely not the one Boston fans were expecting. Most fans have been clamoring for the promotion of Franklin Arias from Double-A to Triple-A. They might be wondering if White’s addition could signal a move up for Arias as well. It could, as Portland’s already juggling a loaded middle infield. However, with Marvin Alcantara currently injured, there might not be a need for any sudden moves.
For now, it appears White will be joining a star-studded Portland lineup (even if that lineup changes soon). The 22-year-old joins as one of the most underrated middle infield prospects in baseball. It’s rare to get 25-plus home run potential from a second baseman, but that’s what White gives you. His swing is stunningly violent and perfectly suited to Boston’s current hitting philosophies. Just one year into his tenure with the organization, and the Red Sox have to be thrilled with what they’ve gotten out of White. His promotion to Double-A is just the next step in his journey, but don’t expect it to be his last.
