Despite their favorite team not being in the World Series, Boston Red Sox fans had things to root for this late October. A seven-game series would've gven fans the most baseball to watch before the expected lockout, but fans didn't get that lucky. The Tampa Bay Rays are a division rival (and the third team the American League East has sent to the World Series in as many years), so it was easy to root for the Milwaukee Brewers instead. Willson Contreras' brother is also a Brewer.
Contreras flew in to St. Petersburg to support his younger brother, William, — and even donned a Brewers jersey for the occasion — as Milwaukee took the Fall Classic. Willson Contreras shouted and celebrated with the rest of his family, moved to tears as Brice Turang zipped the final out to Jake Bauers at first base.
Both Contreras brothers have won baseball's biggest prize before. Willson won in 2016 with the drought-breaking Chicago Cubs and William won in 2021 with the Atlanta Braves. But the 2026 World Series might mean more for the catcher, as he was also named World Series MVP.
William Contreras batted .373/.448/.588 with two doubles, three home runs, nine RBI, seven walks and seven strikeouts over 13 postseason games this year. He logged an RBI double and run in World Series Game 5, securing himself the award.
Willson and William Contreras celebrate the latter's World Series title and MVP award following incredible year of baseball from both
William Contreras' Willie Mays trophy tops off an incredible year of baseball for himself and his brother. They won the World Baseball Classic with their native Venezuela in March and shared another tearful celebration then.
Willson Contreras logged the best offensive year of his career so far in his first season with the Red Sox. The older Contreras brother batted .275/.386/.516 with 21 doubles, three triples and 27 home runs over 130 games. He established himself as a fan-favorite and a leader in Boston and fans are already excited to see what he'll do next season.
The Contrerases each had baseball seasons to remember and their celebrations together were heartwarming. Red Sox fans are hopeful the two brothers will have another reason to celebrate next year if the AL East can manage to get another team to the World Series with a different outcome than the last three.
