The Boston Red Sox made their biggest offseason move in years when they traded four top prospects to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for lefty pitcher Garrett Crochet on Dec. 11.

None of the former Red Sox youngsters made Chicago's Opening Day roster, but it didn't take long for one to reach the major leagues. The White Sox called up Chase Meidroth on April 10, according to Katie Morrison-O'Day on Twitter.

The infielder got the call just in time to face his former team. The Red Sox will face the White Sox in seven of their next 10 games — their first series in Chicago begins on April 11 and the Pale Hose will visit Fenway Park from April 18-21.

Meidroth earned his quick call-up in his short stint with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. He batted .267/.450/.600 with a 1.050 OPS, eight walks, five strikeouts and three homers in nine games. The infielder has always had an impeccable eye for the strike zone — he slashed .293/.437/.400 with 105 walks and just 71 strikeouts over 122 games for Triple-A Worcester in 2024.

Meidroth's path to the big leagues in Boston was blocked despite his success at the plate. He has experience at second base, shortstop and third base, all positions the Red So have filled with depth to spare., especially after

Meidroth was on the phone with fellow Red Sox top prospect Marcelo Mayer when he discovered he was traded to Chicago alongside Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery and Wikelman Gonzalez. According to Morrison-O'Day, he texted his former WooSox coaches when he found out he was promoted to the big leagues.

“I knew he was gonna get his chance. We’re proud of him, he works his tail off, he plays hurt and was our WooSox player of the year. So to see him get that opportunity, I think we all knew that was coming. We’ll be tuning in, we love that kid to death,” Worcester manager Chad Tracy said to MassLive.

A major league debut against the Red Sox would be a nice full-circle moment for Meidroth. Hopefully, Boston sees a lot of him over the next week in its two series against Chicago.
