The Boston Red Sox are doing that really annoying thing again, where they’re trying to give us hope. Will it actually lead to anything? We’ll find out.
They’re still extremely far below .500, and it’s very unlikely that they crawl out of the hole they dug. But there’s always that fear that they do enough to convince the front office to buy at the deadline, so that’s frustratingly terrifying.
However, we don’t have to worry about that down on the farm. There were a lot of positives for Boston's minor leaguers this week. Up and down the system, we saw some absurd performances. Antonio Anderson has arrived, we’re seeing demon Miguel Bleis, there were some ridiculous pitching lines in Greenville, and more.
Red Sox Prospect Update: Antonio Anderson arrival, Miguel Bleis hot streak, Dylan Brown honored
Worcester Red Sox (Triple-A)
Mikey Romero went just 3-for-18 this week. However, two of those three hits left the yard. He also managed to draw four walks to boost his OBP nicely. The left-handed hitting infielder is slashing .233/.300/.364 with 11 doubles, two triples, and six home runs. He’s driven in 30 runs, scored 28, and stolen one base. Worcester is pretty light on top prospects at the moment, so Romero heating up is doing the heavy lifting.
Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A)
Miguel Bleis went 8-for-23 with one double, four home runs, and two steals. He hit all four home runs over the final three games of the series. The right-handed hitting outfielder is slashing .231/.295/.389 with nine doubles and eight home runs. He’s driven in 25 runs, scored 34, and stolen nine bases. Bleis is currently on a six-game hitting streak and a three-game home run streak.
Franklin Arias went 11-for-24 (.458) with two doubles and one home run. He also drew more walks (3) than he had strikeouts (1). The right-handed hitting shortstop is slashing .329/.407/.588 with 15 doubles, one triple, and 15 home runs. He’s driven in 41 runs, scored 40, and stolen five bases.

Greenville Drive (High-A)
Antonio Anderson snapped a seven-game hitting streak on Sunday, but still had one of his best weeks in professional baseball. The switch-hitting corner infielder went 11-for-22 with two doubles, three home runs, and six RBI. He hit home runs in three straight games. Anderson is up to a .236/.342/.390 slash line with five doubles, one triple, and four home runs. He’s driven in 18 runs, scored 20, and stolen one base.
Justin Gonzales went 4-for-12 with one home run and two steals. That doesn’t sound like he played much, but he appeared in five games. The reason for the low number of at-bats is that Gonzales had eight walks (compared to one strikeout) and two HBP. Gonzales is slashing .261/.374/.437 with eight doubles, two triples, and 10 home runs. The right-handed hitting outfielder/first baseman has 34 RBI, 44 runs scored, and six steals.
Luke Heyman went 5-for-17 with three home runs and eight RBI. He also drew four walks. The right-handed-hitting catcher is slashing .220/.366/.450 with eight doubles, one triple, and 12 home runs between Single-A and High-A. He’s driven in 38 runs and scored 30 more.

Salem Red Sox (Single-A)
Leighton Finley allowed two runs on four hits over five innings. The right-handed pitcher walked two batters and set a new career-best with 10 strikeouts. Finley has a 3.44 ERA, .251 BAA, and 1.45 WHIP in 12 games (10 starts). He has 56 strikeouts and 31 walks in 55 innings.

Wuilliams Rodriguez was phenomenal over two appearances, allowing just one unearned run on four hits over 4 2/3 innings. He even picked up a save for his efforts. The right-handed pitcher struck out six batters without walking any. Rodriguez has a 5.06 ERA, .221 BAA, and 1.26 WHIP in 22 appearances. He has 39 strikeouts and 14 walks in 37 1/3 innings.
