In the morning before their June 3 matchup with the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox fans got word that the final piece of the Caleb Durbin trade was headed to Fenway for his Sox debut.
Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported that Anthony Seigler departed Worcester for Boston on June 2. He'll be replacing Nick Sogard on the roster, who is going on the 10-day injured list with right side soreness.
The Red Sox called Sogard up on May 16 after Trevor Story was placed on the IL with a sports hernia. Sogard started every game since his return before his side soreness popped up while the Red Sox were in Cleveland from May 29-31. He batted .257/.350/.371 with three extra-base hits and two RBI over 12 games.
Seigler has 34 games of big league experience from his tenure with the Milwaukee Brewers before they traded him to Boston alongside Durbin and Andruw Monasterio before spring training. The infielder batted .194/.292/.210 with Milwaukee last year.

Seigler, who turns 27 on June 20, was a 2018 first-round draft pick and former New York Yankees top prospect. In 2019, he debuted at No. 6 in New York's top 30, according to MLB Pipeline, but he steadily fell down every year. Seigler came up as a catcher but switched off the position in 2023, the year before he hit free agency and signed a minor league deal with the Brewers.
Seigler started the season on the injured list with patellar tendinopathy and debuted for the WooSox on April 9. He's slashing .298/.425/.471 with more walks (22) than strikeouts (19) over 30 games on the season. He batted .344/.468/.531 with 10 strikeouts, 14 walks and 14 RBI in May and he scored the tying run in the WooSox's June 2 game, which they went on to walk off.
The Red Sox have had great luck with Triple-A call-ups this year — Sogard and Mickey Gasper have both been spark plugs in Boston's offense. Seigler is fresh off a hot month with the WooSox and the Red Sox are desperate for a jolt of offense at home, especially against a division rival trending up, like the Orioles. Maybe the former top prospect can provide.
