We're only two games into the Triple-A season, and Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer are already doing ridiculous things. The two top Boston Red Sox prospects combined for an absurd day at the plate on March 30.
Marcelo Mayer went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored, and a steal. Those were the first two hits Triple-A hits. The RBI, run, and steal were also firsts for the left-handed hitting shortstop in Worcester.
Mayer had a scorching spring training, and it's great to see that's carrying over into the regular season. He's quickly reminded everyone why he's one of the top prospects in baseball.
Roman Anthony went 2-for-3 with two walks. The left-handed hitting outfielder also crushed two home runs, one to right field and one to left field. He drove in three runs and scored four more. Anthony is 2-for-6 with four walks compared to just one strikeout this season.

Top Red Sox prospects Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer combined for monster day in Worcester
Unsurprisingly, Worcester took care of the Syracuse Mets by a final score of 12-0. That tends to happen when your first four hitters combined to go 9-for-17 (Nick Sogard had two hits, and Trayce Thompson had three, including a home run).
Mayer only has two games in Triple-A, and the Red Sox have plenty of options in the infield at the moment. Due to that, it's hard to imagine Boston finding a spot for him quickly. He could force the issue, though.
Anthony is a different story. The Red Sox have a full outfield, but the 20-year-old is nearing 200 plate appearances at the level, and he's been one of the best hitters in Triple-A since his arrival. Boston might not be able to deny the Tribal Chief much longer.
For now, though, both Anthony and Mayer are in Triple-A. If you can, get to Worcester (or watch the games on TV) and enjoy watching the duo continue to grow together.
