Baseball America released a new update for its top 100 prospect rankings on June 4, and another Boston Red Sox prospect has debuted on the list.
Baseball America has ranked Jhostynxon Garcia as its No. 99 prospect (subscription required). He joins left-handed pitchers Brandon Clarke (No. 90) and Payton Tolle (No. 88), shortstops Franklin Arias (No. 65) and Marcelo Mayer (No. 8), and Roman Anthony (No. 1) on the list.
Garcia broke out in 2024, climbing from Single-A to Double-A in a single season. After just 33 games with Portland this year (63 games total dating back to last season), Garcia was promoted to Triple-A.
Since his promotion to Worcester, Garcia has looked like one of the best hitters on the planet. The righty outfielder is slashing .380/.404/.680 with three doubles and four home runs in 12 games. He's driven in nine runs and scored eight more.
Top Red Sox prospect Jhostynxon Garcia debuts on Baseball America's top 100 list after promotion to Triple-A
Garcia has legitimate power, hitting 23 home runs last season and up to seven in 2025. However, it's not the only positive in his game.
The 22-year-old has significantly bulked up. It's impossible to believe he's the 163 lbs (6'0") that MiLB has him listed as — that simply feels like it hasn't been updated in a few years.
Despite his massive frame, Garcia has shown off plenty of athleticism. He's good on the base paths and has enough speed to swipe some bags and take extra bases. Meanwhile, his defense might be the most overlooked part of his game. Garcia looks incredibly smooth in the outfield and makes his fair share of sliding/diving plays. Fellow top Red Sox prospect Mikey Romero even told "The Pesky Report" podcast that Garcia is one of the best defensive outfielders he's ever played with.
Don't be surprised to see Garcia continue to move up as some players graduate and as he continues to dominate Triple-A pitching. Boston fans are already wondering how they'll make room for Anthony. They might start asking how to get Garcia to Fenway soon, too.
