Red Sox Game Today: Red Sox vs Yankees Lineup, Odds, Prediction, Pick, Pitcher, TV Channel for August 17
The Red Sox are coming off a triumphant weekend that included the first Sale Day since 2019, Bobby Dalbec’s first career multi-homer game (and homers in back-to-back games), homers in back-to-back games for Hunter Renfroe and JD Martinez, and a much-needed sweep of the Baltimore Orioles.
But now, the real work begins, as the Red Sox play a doubleheader (seven innings each) against the Yankees, who are only two games behind them in the standings.

Red Sox Pitcher Today: Tanner Houck (Game 1), Nathan Eovaldi (Game 2)
Tanner Houck will once again be the 27th man on the roster for Tuesday’s doubleheader, and Nathan Eovaldi will go in Game 2. They’ll be going up against Jordan Montgomery and Luis Gil, respectively.
Game 1: Houck
The Red Sox have shuttled Houck up and down all year, but he has a 2.93 ERA over eight big-league games (six starts) and has struck out an insane 44 batters over 30 2/3 innings.
Despite only making his MLB debut in September 2020, Houck has already pitched against the Yankees three times. He pitched six shutout one-hit innings against them in his second MLB start in 2020 and has a lifetime 0.00 ERA against them over 13 2/3 innings.
In his career, Houck has held Yankees batters to a .093/.220/.116 line and .336 OPS.
Montgomery has a 3.69 ERA over 21 starts, with 115 strikeouts over 114 2/3 innings this season. He’s faced the Red Sox three times this season and has a 3.06 ERA against them over 17 2/3 innings. Sox bats have been fairly quiet against him, a .219/.268/.297 line and .564 OPS. The Sox knocked him around the first time two times they faced him this year, tagging him for three earned runs both times, but he shut them out in their most recent game on July 22.
Game 2: Eovaldi
Eovaldi has a 3.92 ERA over 23 starts, which is better than his 4+ ERA in the two years he spent in a Yankees uniform.
After getting knocked around a bit in July and early August, Nasty Nate looked more like himself in his most recent start, only allowed one earned run and three hits to the Rays over seven dominant innings.
He’s faced the Yankees four times already this season and has a 1.71 ERA against them over 26 1/3 innings. He has only allowed more than one earned run to them in one game. The most insane stat? He’s faced 102 Yankees batters and has only issued one walk.
The Yankees are using brand-new rookie Luis Gil for the night game. He made his debut on August 3, so this will be his third career start. Over 11 big-league innings, he has yet to allow a run, though the first team he faced was the Baltimore Orioles, so take that with a grain of salt.
At this point, Gil is an enigma. Hopefully, the Red Sox can raise his ERA tonight.

Red Sox vs Yankees Prediction Today
Ideally, the Red Sox win both of these games on the backs of exemplary pitching by Houck and Eovaldi.
But being realistic, I’m going to say they only win one.
