Triston Casas highlights this week’s Red Sox Prospect Watch

With the Olympics over, the Boston Red Sox got some of their big-name prospects back. That included Triston Casas. Obviously, this gives a big jolt of energy into the minor league system. It also makes the Prospect Watch a little more interesting, which I’ll never complain about.

In the Majors, Bobby Dalbec had a fantastic week. The first baseman went 0-for-4 on Sunday but before that had a three game stretch that saw him go 7-for-11 with two walks, two doubles, one triple, and three homers. He also drove in 11 runs and scored five more in that time. This has helped to bring up his overall stats nicely. Dalbec is now slashing .230/.280/.437 with 14 doubles, four triples, and 14 home runs. He’s driven in a solid 52 runs and scored 32 more.

Jarren Duran has been playing better as well. The outfielder is currently slashing .215/.232/.367 but has shown plenty signs of life recently. Duran has two doubles, two triples, and two home runs. He’s also driven in eight runs, scored 11 more, and stolen one base. It shouldn’t be that surprising that he needs adjusting to the Majors, it’s a different animal. So there’s nothing to worry about, let him get his footing.

Garrett Whitlock had an incredibly rare bad outing earlier this week, giving up two runs in 1 2/3 innings. So of course he dominated his next time out, throwing 1 2/3 perfect innings and striking out three. The right-handed pitcher has a 1.41 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and .238 BAA on the season. In 57 1/3 innings pitched he has 62 strikeouts. Meanwhile, he has a 4-1 record, 11 holds, and one save.

Tanner Houck has a 2.93 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and .239 BAA on the season. He has 44 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings pitched. There’s really no other way around it, the 25-year-old has been one of the best pitchers for the Red Sox this year in his limited time with the team. It’s fun to think how good he can be with a regular role. Especially considering just how nasty some of his pitches are.
