It's been seven MLB seasons since Boston Red Sox fans last saw the World Series winning trio of Andrew Beninitendi, Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr. patrolling the outfield at Fenway Park.
Since then, Betts has added two more World Series trophies as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Bradley has retired, and Benintendi recently endured the worst season in baseball history as a member of the Chicago White Sox. His team lost an MLB record 121 games last season.
With the White Sox off to a dreadful 2-10 start this year, Benintendi was quickly becoming one of the few bright spots on a team destined to sit in the basement of the American League Central. Despite fracturing his hand during spring training, the fleet-footed outfielder was deemed healthy enough to make the White Sox Opening Day roster. Benintendi is batting .291 with nine hits, two home runs and six RBI in his first nine games being placed on the 10-day injured list with a left adductor strain.
Now aged 30, Benintendi has failed to reach the previous career highs of his days with the Red Sox. Boston traded Benintendi to the Kansas City Royals in Feb. 2021, and he was dished to the New York Yankees before the 2022 trade deadline. But after signing a five-year, $75 million dollar deal with the White Sox in 2023, poor performance and injuries have continued to nag the 2022 All-Star. And that unfortunate trend seems to be following him again into the 2025 season.
Former Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi's bad luck with White Sox continues with latest 10-day IL stint
Prior to tonight’s game at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Andrew Benintendi on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 7) with a left adductor strain and recalled outfielder Greg Jones from Class AAA Charlotte.

Benintendi's injury comes at a tough time for the former Red Sox as he looked to finally be healthy after spending much of the 2024 season sidelined, and had just recently connected for the 100th home run of his career on March 28th.
That being said, Benintendi will likely be shopped before the MLB trade deadline this year as the White Sox attempt to shed salary as the team continues what's likely to be a lengthy rebuilding process. And now with Benintendi back on the shelf, the White Sox will hope he returns soon and can produce enough at the plate to attract interest from rival teams at the trade deadline later this summer.
