The All-Star break can’t come soon enough for fans of the Boston Red Sox. They desperately need some time off from watching the train wreck that is this 2026 season. With the break also comes the All-Star Game and the All-Star Futures Game.
The rosters for the latter event were announced on Wednesday, and the Red Sox will have two representatives on the American League roster. No one will be surprised by the names: right-handed pitcher Anthony Eyanson and shortstop Franklin Arias will star for the Sox.
The Double-A Portland Sea Dogs have been lucky enough to have Arias on their roster all season (although many have been wondering how much longer he could realistically spend there) (subscription required). As of July 1, the right-handed-hitting shortstop is slashing .329/.414/.606 with 15 doubles, one triple, and 17 home runs. He’s driven in 44 runs, scored 43, and stolen five bases. Arias has nearly as many walks (31) as he has strikeouts (36).
There really isn’t anything that suggests he isn’t ready for Triple-A. Arias has launched himself into “best prospect in baseball” discussions, and getting the Futures Game nod comes as a surprise to no one.

What is it that launched him into those discussions? The power. He had everything going for him outside of any real home run potential. It felt like he was limited to maybe 15 in a season if you were lucky. His career-high was nine. He’s nearly already doubled that this year thanks to putting on some weight and muscle this offseason and clearly putting in the work to add pop to his game.
Meanwhile, Eyanson started the season in High-A with the Greenville Drive. The right-handed pitcher only needed five starts before getting promoted to Double-A. Between the two levels, Eyanson has a 1.07 ERA, .149 BAA, and 0.87 WHIP in 12 starts. He has 64 strikeouts and 19 walks in 50 2/3 innings.
Eyanson was a third-round pick in 2025 and has quickly established himself as one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. He burst onto the scene in spring training, specifically during the Spring Breakout game. There, the righty saw a massive velocity jump, suddenly hitting 100 MPH when he usually sat in the low 90s.
Eyanson is back to sitting in the low 90s. However, he’s doing so with great control and elite secondary pitches that it shouldn’t worry anyone that he’s not regularly hitting 100 MPH. He only threw one inning in relief when he touched triple digits during Spring Breakout. Now, he’s starting and trying to go five-plus innings. With that in mind, he’s clearly going to pace himself. The Spring Breakout game showed us that Eyanson has the ability to hit higher velocities, and that’s something he’ll maybe work on in the future, but for now, we should just be happy with the filth.
The 2026 season hasn’t gone well for the Red Sox. Arias and Eyanson have given fans something to be excited about in the minor leagues, and now they’re going to be involved in the All-Star Game festivities.
