Red Sox Arizona Fall League Update: November 3-9

The Hitters

Sam Travis is leading the league lead in runs scored with 14. In three games this week, Travis was five for 13 with a double and homer and five RBI and a stolen base. He has slashed a .328/.389/.484 batting line thus far in Arizona. Over his last ten games the red hot Travis has a .381/.438/.548 line, striking out just three times over his last 37 at-bats.

Carlos Asuaje also had a strong week at the plate. Asuaje was five for 12, with two runs scored and a stolen base. His batting line in Arizona is .327/.370/.347.

Shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin did not have a great week. Lin went two for 13, with an RBI, walk, and stolen base, but did strike out four times. Lin’s current batting line is .189/.268/.216 this season.

The Pitchers

Aaron Wilkerson has left the team to pitch for the USA squad in the inaugural Premier12 tournament in Taiwan. In his time in Arizona Wilkerson allowed ten hits and six earned runs through seven innings, walking five and striking out four. He had a final ERA of 7.71. The first game of the tournament for the US is tonight.

Justin Haley replaced Wilkerson on the roster. Haley is looking to salvage his year after a difficult 5-16, 5.15 ERA at AA Portland this season. Haley has bounced back to the tune of six scoreless innings over two starts in Arizona, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out five batters.

Right-hander Kyle Martin pitched 3.1 innings over two appearances, allowing one run on three hits and striking out a batter. Overall, Martin has allowed two earned runs and six hits over 8.1 innings, walking one batter and striking out eight.

Left hander Danny Rosenbaum picked up his second win of the AFL season, allowing one run over two appearances for the week, allowing one walk and two hits. Overall, the southpaw has thrown seven innings, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out five batters.

Right handed pitcher Chandler Shepherd had a strong week. He had two scoreless appearances on the week, walking just one batter while striking out five, notching his first AFL save in the process. He has walked two and struck out ten while allowing five earned runs in 6.2 innings of AFL work.
