Caleb Durbin is the newest member of the Boston Red Sox. Boston and Milwaukee completed a six-player, one-pick trade that got the Sox a new starting infielder, plus two depth infielders and a pick. Durbin was the headliner of the entire trade, but the other two are players Red Sox Nation should know.

Andruw Monasterio is a 28-year-old utility infielder. He is a right-handed hitter who mashes lefties. In 2025, Monasterio hit .273 with an .837 OPS against southpaws. He can play second base, shortstop, and third base. The righty will likely start the season in Triple-A. He has three minor league options remaining, giving the Sox a lot of flexibility.

The Venezuelan-born infielder was signed by the Cubs in 2014 as an international free agent. He was traded from Chicago to Washington at the 2018 trade deadline, then traded again to Cleveland that offseason. Monasterio stayed in Cleveland's minor leagues until 2021, when he was not re-signed. He signed with Milwaukee that offseason, spent a year in the minors, and made his MLB debut with the Brew Crew in 2023.

Red Sox-Brewers trade brought in much-needed infield depth in Andruw Monasterio and Anthony Seigler

Anthony Seigler was the other player acquired in the deal. Seigler is a 26-year-old corner infielder who can also catch some. The lefty made his MLB debut this season, and in his first 34 games, he hit just .194 with a .501 OPS. Seigler has never been known for his bat and was more of a defense-first prospect.

Seigler was the 23rd pick in the first round by the Yankees in the 2018 draft. The Georgia native came straight from high school and was drafted as a catcher. In high school, Seigler was both a switch-hitter and a switch-pitcher, able to throw 80+ MPH with both arms. The former first-rounder was very athletic for the position, and MLB Pipeline said he could profile as an everyday second baseman.

Seigler, like Monasterio, has minor league options remaining. He will also likely start the season in Triple-A. Both will be candidates for a call-up should Romy Gonzalez, Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, or any of the other infielders get injured. Monasterio has also moonlighted in left, playing two innings out there in each other the last two seasons.

Durbin is the headliner of the trade, and the player Red Sox Nation will become the most familiar with. Monasterio and Seigler will both get meaningful at-bats during their Red Sox tenures, though. The fanbase shouldn't forget about them.
