It's no secret that Trevor Story has been having a roller coaster of a season. There have been plenty of highs but also a few very low-lows.

At points, fans were calling for him to be DFA'd, but he has also been the driving factor in multiple series wins. Being influential can be good or bad, and in Story's case, it's both. When digging into the numbers, one interesting split stands out: his win/loss numbers.

In Boston Red Sox wins this season, Story is hitting .326 with an OPS just shy of 1.000. He has 17 doubles and 18 home runs while driving in 72 runs. In losses, Story is hitting a lowly .177 with a .403 OPS. He only has five extra-base hits and just seven RBIs. He has 75 strikeouts in the Red Sox's 54 losses he has played in, compared to the 67 Ks in the 68 wins he's played in.

All of Red Sox Nation watched as Story scuffled through May. In 25 games he hit .158 with a .432 OPS. That is 15 hits (three for extrabases) in 95 ABs. May was Boston's worst month. The team went 11-17, just a .393 winning percentage. That was the only month they had a winning percentage under .500.

When Trevor Story is hot, the Red Sox follow

The Sox's best month was July, when they went 17-7, winning 70% of their games. No surprise, July was Story's best month too. He hit .293 with an .870 OPS. He had eight doubles, five homers, and 19 RBIs in just 24 games.

Story was maybe the key contributor during the team's seven-game win streak from July 29 to August 5. He hit .480, slugged 1.000, and had a 1.552 OPS. Seven of his 12 hits in that stretch were for extra bases, and he drove in 11 runs. But also, when the Sox lost six straight, just a week after the Rafael Devers trade in mid-June, Story hit .261 with just one extra base hit, an OPS of .652.

The veteran righty has been the cog making the Red Sox machine run this season. All it takes is putting guys on base in front of him. With runners in scoring position this season, he is hitting .291 with an .844 OPS. That ticks up to a .299 batting average and .857 OPS when the numbers expand to include just a runner on first.

When fans look back on this season, Story is going to be a player who pops up in a lot of highlights. The reason is that he has four doubles, five home runs, and 28 RBIs with the game tied.

It isn't cliche to say when Story goes, the team goes.
