MLB's Winter Meetings have brought a flurry of trade and free agency rumors across the league. It seems like the Boston Red Sox have been in the middle of many of them.

Craig Breslow addressed some of the team's pitching concerns prior to the meetings — though not as much as fans had hoped — and now Red Sox Nation's attention has turned towards the lineup.

The Sox have been linked to many of the top-end free agent bats, including Alex Bregman, Pete Alonso, and Bo Bichette, but now the rumor mill is swirling around another trade target. Ketel Marte has seemingly been made available by the Arizona Diamondbacks, and many teams have interest in his services.

No concrete report has placed the Red Sox at the top of the suitors list for Marte, but two Red Sox media personalities' social media posts on December 9 should have fans' excitement levels rising. First, Red Sox radio play-by-play announcer Will Flemming took to X to say that something big may happen in "the next 72 hours" (the post was around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon) that will make fans smile. While that doesn't connect the Red Sox to any players, it was another media personality's posts that can help fans connect some dots.

Red Sox podcast host is spreading breadcrumbs across social media

Jared Carrabis, host of the Red Sox podcast "Section 10," quoted another post of a video of baseball insiders Jon Morosi and Jon Heyman saying the Red Sox are a team they are watching in the Marte sweepstakes. Carrabis, who is known for subtly leaking inside information he receives, said, "I'd be watching them too".

Marte, who turned 32 in October, has been one of the best hitters in baseball the last three seasons, posting an .887 OPS and a 140 WRC+ from 2023-25, which is tied for ninth during that span. The switch-hitting second baseman is under contract until 2031 and carries a luxury tax hit just under $20 million per year.

Marte fills multiple holes for Boston. He would be a massive impact bat in the middle of the lineup, providing pop from both sides of the plate. He also fills a need at second base. The Dominican infielder has also played outfield in his career, so moving him elsewhere on the diamond later in the contract would certainly be a possibility.

Nothing is close yet, and Morosi said later in the night that they haven't gotten as far as exchanging names of prospects yet, but having Flemming and Carrabis spread possible hints to social media means something may be on the verge.
