For the second straight year, MLB will hold a series of Spring Breakout games during spring training. Those games feature prospects from both teams, showcasing the sport's future.
On March 6, the Boston Red Sox announced their 2025 Spring Breakout roster. The game is on March 13 at 7:05 p.m., and the future of the Red Sox will be on full display. Sadly, not every prospect will be showcased as the game is only seven innings, but fans will get plenty of looks at rising stars. Red Sox Nation will also get to see what the future Sox may be up against — they'll face off against the Rays' top prospects, potential division rivals down the line.
Many of the Sox's younger players and recent draft picks didn't make the cut, like two-way player Conrad Cason, but this is still a great chance to see a lot of the top names play together. Sit back and enjoy some carefree, no-consequences baseball.
The pitchers to make the roster are David Sandlin, Connelly Early, Hunter Dobbins, Payton Tolle, Juan Valera, Jedixson Paez, Yordanny Monegro, Blake Wehunt, Jojo Ingrassia, Brandon Clarke, Cooper Adams, Reidis Sena, and Adam Smith.

Sandlin is the top-ranked of the group, according to MLB Pipeline. The list goes down in order from there. However, those top names aren't the only ones fans will be excited to watch. We've already seen and heard plenty from Sandlin, Early, and Dobbins.
Payton Tolle and Brandon Clarke are left-handed pitchers from the 2024 draft who have yet to appear in a minor league game — Red Sox Nation's first look at them will be on a big stage. Juan Valera is a young righty who barely got to pitch in Low-A Salem last year. He's a potential star to look out for.
Yordanny Monegro and Jedixson Paez could gain the most fans in this game. Monegro is an electric righty who is easily the most entertaining pitcher to watch in the organization. He should start the year in Double-A and has the nicknames Pikachu and Aura God.
Paez is the most accurate prospect you'll see in a long time. The right-handed pitcher had 12 walks compared to 113 strikeouts in 96 2/3 innings between Low-A and High-A last season. If he added some velocity, things could get scary.
At catcher, the Red Sox have Brooks Brannon, Ronald Rosario, and Kleyver Salazar. Brannon is a right-handed hitting tank. He has a ridiculous amount of pop and good athleticism that can help him grow at the position. Outside of Johanfran Garcia, he's the most exciting prospect they have at catcher. Ronald Rosario had a sneaky good season in 2024. He posted career highs in doubles (19), home runs (eight), and RBI (63) while spending the year in High-A.
In the infield, they have Marcelo Mayer, Franklin Arias, Yoeilin Cespedes, Mikey Romero, and Blaze Jordan. Kristian Campbell could also appear there, as he's been slotted in the utility role. Campbell still has an outside chance to make the Red Sox's Opening Day roster, so it's surprising to see him on the Spring Breakout squad.

Arias took the world by storm last year with an impressive debut in Low-A late in the season. Cespedes outperformed Arias in the FCL, but an injury kept him from playing in Salem. Seeing those two together should be fun.
Romero was healthy last season and started hitting bombs. He came into camp looking even bigger, and this could be the start of a big year. Jordan worked on his body last year and looks fantastic. Bad luck injuries derailed his 2024. Hopefully, he can remind everyone why he's such an intriguing prospect.
The outfielders are Roman Anthony, Jhostynxon Garcia, Miguel Bleis, Nelly Taylor, and Allan Castro. Like Campbell, I'm shocked that Anthony will be playing when he could make the Opening Day roster. Garcia had a breakout 2024 season and is getting decent playing time in spring already.
Bleis has struggled at times, but we've seen flashes of his incredible all-around talent. He has elite speed, good pop, and plays great defense. The game could be a fun showcase for him.
Taylor is the best defender in the system, and he definitely deserves to show his stuff in this game so the media can hype him up more. The bat showed a lot of life following a promotion to High-A late last year.
Castro had ups and downs in 2024, but the switch-hitter draws a lot of walks and has plenty of pop. He'll start the year in Double-A as a 21-year-old. That in itself is impressive and should tell you how the Red Sox view his talents.
The Red Sox's farm system has recently garnered attention for being one of the best in the league, and the Spring Breakout game lets fans see where that hype is coming from. Sox fans have already seen a lot from the "Big Three," but Boston's farm system is much deeper than Anthony, Campbell and Mayer in terms of potentially elite talent.
