Red Sox's 2027 schedule will have them in perpetual state of jet lag

MLB has — optimistically — announced its 2027 schedule despite impending Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations between the league and the MLB Players' Association (MLBPA). If, by some miracle, there's no lockout and the coming season goes exactly as planned, the Boston Red Sox know the order of their matchups.

The Red Sox will open their season on March 25 in Seattle against the Mariners. It'll be their third Opening Day in Seattle in the last nine years as openers at Fenway Park come rarely — Boston's weather is still quite hostile at the end of March and definitely not ideal for baseball games (subscription required).

Boston's season-opening trip to Seattle is one of a whopping four times it'll head to the West Coast next season. The trips are mostly concentrated to earier in the year: the Sox will open the season in Seattle, then play the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Angels on the road from May 28-June 2, then they'll face the Arizona Diamondbacks and Athletics from June 18-23. They'll head to California one last time from August 24-26 to face the San Francisco Giants.

MLB's 162 game schedule is already exhausting, but three West Coast road trips in the first two months of play is a pretty brutal hand to be dealt. The Red Sox will be jet lagged early in the season, but it will be nice to get the long flights out of the way early to be more local in the second half.

Red Sox's 2027 schedule features four West Coast trips, spread out inter-division matchups

On multiple occasions, the Red Sox will play the same teams in quick succession. Boston will face the Houston Astros in the second series of the season, then again just a week later. The Sox will play four games against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field from April 12-16 just to face them again at home the following week. They'll face the rival New York Yankees twice in the same week to start June, and they'll play the A's in consecutive weeks later in the month. They'll close out June against the Minnesota Twins and face them again the series before the All-Star break.

The Red Sox will face the Yankees twice in June (4-7, 11-13) once in August and once in September. Boston returned from the 2026 All-Star break to a long streak of divisional opponents — they play the Rays, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays back-to-back-to-back — and fortunately have no such divisional gauntlet in 2027.

The 2027 season may not go forward as planned and there's no way to know how many games will be missed due to a lockout, if any. But if there isn't a lockout, the schedules are set, and besides the frequent trips out west, things don't look too bad for Boston.
