Editor's note: Saturday's Cardinals at Red Sox game has officially been postponed. The teams will play a doubleheader at Fenway Park on Sunday. Saturday's game will be made up at 1:35 p.m., and Game 2 will start at 7:10 p.m.
The Boston Red Sox's Saturday evening game against the St. Louis Cardinals has been delayed due to rain, according to the Red Sox on Twitter.
The Red Sox's second game of the season at Fenway Park has been delayed past its initial 4:10 p.m. start time. No updated start time has been released, and there is at least a 49% chance of rain in the forecast for the rest of the night of April 5, according to AccuWeather. Rain may also threaten the Sox's Sunday game, which is supposed to air on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.
Boston manager Alex Cora told reporters earlier in the day that he expects to play around the rain on Saturday, but that statement came hours before the rain delay was announced. The Red Sox claimed their third-straight win on Opening Day at Fenway Park the day before, and they'd no doubt like to maintain their positive momentum.

If the game is played this evening, it'll be a chilly watch for the fans in the stands. Boston expects on-and-off rain and temperatures in the mid-to-low 40s for the rest of the night. Richard Fitts (1.74 ERA in 20.2 IP in 2024) will get his second start of the season for the Sox, and Andre Pallante (3.78 ERA in 121.1 IP in 2024) will get the nod for St. Louis.
Boston's lineup will be slightly different from its April 4 squad. Kristian Campbell, fresh off his contract extension press conference, will get the start in center field and Jarren Duran will move to left field. David Hamilton will play second base and is still looking for his first hit of the season. Wilyer Abreu has been scratched from the initial lineup and Rob Refsnyder will take his place in right field. Abreu has been one of the Sox's most consistent bats early in the season, with 11 hits, three of them homers, and nine runs in eight games. Refsnyder collected two hits and a run on March 31, his only outing of the season thus far.
