Anytime the Boston Red Sox take on the Yankees, it is appointment-level baseball. These are two teams and fanbases that truly hate each other and the rest of the league eagerly waits to see who will come out on top. On paper, the Yankees seem to be in a better spot this season, but all bets are off when these rivalry games go down. Sadly, rain in the area has this matchup on hold.
Before the weather rolled in, Walker Buehler was set to take the mound against Will Warren. Given how well Buehler pitched at Yankee Stadium the last time he was there, this is one matchup in this series that seems to favor the Red Sox at least on the pitching side. Unfortunately, crummy weather started rolling through the area this afternoon and once the downpour began, it became abundantly clear that this game would not start on time and there would be a rain delay.
**Update: 6:57 PM EST**
Thankfully, it looks like this will indeed be a short rain delay. It was just announced that assuming the rain moves on as expected, this Red Sox-Yankees game will start at 7:30 PM EST.
Red Sox vs. Yankees Rain Delay - 6/6: When will the game finally start?
Right now, the weather does not look great hence the delay. However, the forecast does seem to improve over the next hour or two. One thing to consider here is the state of the field after such a downpour, but you know that MLB wants to make sure that each game of this series is an event unto themselves. Cramming together games into doubleheaders seems bad from a programming standpoint, so expect the league to do everything they can to get this game in this evening.
We will update this post with any details that become available including an estimated start time as well as any other updates that come out during the delay. Again, things may look rough weather-wise right now, but this shouldn't be too long of a delay, so keep checking back here for the latest.
