The Boston Red Sox have been busy locking up some of their young talent this week. Just one day after signing star left-hander Garrett Crochet to a six-year contract extension, the club announced Wednesday that they agreed to an eight-year extension with 22-year-old rookie infielder Kristian Campbell.
Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that Campbell's deal with the Red Sox is worth $60 million and carries two club options. Per Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, Campbell gets a $2 million signing bonus and a $1 million salary this year. He will then make $2 million, $3 million, $4 million, $6 million, $9 million, $13 million and $16 million in the next seven seasons.
Speier also reported that the options are worth $19 million in 2033 and $21 million in 2034, with a $4 million buyout on the first option. Campbell's deal also includes incentives based on awards voting and All-Star selections. With escalators, the value of the contract can exceed $100 million over 10 years.

Red Sox roll the dice, sign top prospect Kristian Campbell to lengthy contract
Campbell broke camp with the Red Sox after an impressive 2024 season that saw him win the MLB Pipeline Hitting Prospect of the Year and the double-A Eastern League MVP in his first full professional season. He slashed .330/.439/.558 with 20 home runs and 24 stolen bases while suiting up in 115 games across three levels levels of the Red Sox's farm system last year, ending the season with a rather brief 19-game stint at Triple-A Worcester.
Campbell only made his Major League debut on Opening Day this season and has just 16 big-league at-bats under his belt. He has impressed in that small sample size, though, racking up six hits, four runs, four walks and a pair of RBI in 20 trips to the plate for a slash line of .375/.500/.688 through his first five Major League games.
Signing an inexperienced prospect to an extension of this size is a calculated risk. But it's clear that the Red Sox see Campbell, their No. 2 prospect and the No. 6 prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline, as a fixture in their lineup moving forward.
