While the Boston Red Sox did emerge victorious over the Twins on Friday night, it came with a heavy cost. In the second inning, Triston Casas tripped at first base and immediately grabbed his left leg.He ended up needing to be stretchered off the field, which was all but a guarantee that the slugger was about to be out for a while.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed that Casas had a "significant" knee injury after the game, and also said that he was still at the hospital being evaluated. Unfortunately, official word has come in, and Casas suffered a torn patellar tendon. He is, indeed, going to be out for some time.

Red Sox slugger Triston Casas diagnosis is revealed, as he has a torn patellar tendon
We'll start with the other roster moves first, as they are pretty straightforward. Boston needs another bat, so Abraham Toro and his .917 OPS this year in the minors is getting the call. Toro's track record of hitting in the majors isn't great, but this is a decent short-term fix while the Red Sox evaluate all of their options.
Luis Guerrero was optioned to the minors in exchange for Brennan Berardino's return as well. Guerrero had actually pitched pretty well in his three appearances, and just appears to be the easiest move to make in a hurry. Expect him to get back to the majors this season at some point soon.
As for Casas, the odds he plays again this season are incredibly small. Patellar tendon ruptures are no joke, and can take as long as 12 months to recover from. We'll know more once more details are released, but you can all but bank on Casas being done for 2025.
Could this mean some roster movement that allows for Roman Anthony and/or Marcelo Mayer to get the call? Perhaps, but Boston is just trying to get through the next couple of games before thinking about that. In the short-term, Kristian Campbell remains out of Saturday's lineup as well, and Romy Gonzalez will continue to fill the first base void.
