There’s really not much to say about the 2026 season for the Boston Red Sox at this point. It’s been an unmitigated disaster. The pitching (for the most part) has been fantastic. The defense largely has been phenomenal since the first few weeks. However, the offense is essentially non-existent. That leads to the team losing games that feel winnable.

The frustration doesn’t bleed over to the prospects, though! Boston's minor league system is still brimming with talent, and the names on this list might be more fun to watch than the big league team, at this point.

Red Sox Prospect Update: Patrick Halligan rebounds, Antonio Anderson stays hot, Jack Winnay

Worcester Red Sox (Triple-A)

Mikey Romero had arguably his best week of the season. The left-handed hitting infielder went 6-for-18 with one walk, one double, and one home run. Romero’s slashing .235/.305/.329 with eight doubles and two home runs. He’s driven in 17 runs and scored 18 in 38 games.

Angel Bastardo appeared in two games this week and struck out five batters over three perfect innings. The right-handed pitcher has a 3.09 ERA, .205 BAA, and 1.29 WHIP in seven appearances. He has 18 strikeouts compared to six walks in 11 2/3 innings. Bastardo is sneakily an intriguing bullpen option should the Red Sox need one later this season.

Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A)

Patrick Halligan has struggled this year, but had two untouchable appearances this week. The right-handed pitcher didn’t allow any runs over six hitless innings in one start and one relief appearance. He struck out eight batters and walked one. Halligan has a 5.70 ERA, .258 BAA, and 1.48 WHIP in 11 appearances (two starts). He has 34 strikeouts compared to 11 walks in 23 2/3 innings.

Blake Wehunt had easily his best start of the season this week. The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits over 3 1/3 shutout innings. He struck out a season-high seven batters and walked just one. Wehunt has a 6.17 ERA, .298 BAA, and 1.71 WHIP in five starts. He has 16 strikeouts compared to six walks in 11 2/3 innings.

Marvin Alcantara had a surprisingly powerful week. The right-handed hitting infielder went 6-for-23 with a double and two home runs. He’s slashing .200/.263/.352 with five doubles, one triple, and four home runs (career-high). Alcantara has eight RBI, 10 runs, and five steals.

Brooks Brannon hit two more home runs this week — it’s becoming predictable at this point. The right-handed hitting first baseman is slashing .339/.452/.814 with five doubles, one triple, and seven home runs. He’s driven in 20 runs, scored 10, and stolen one base in 17 games.

Miguel Bleis went 6-for-15 with a home run this week. He snapped a seven-game hitting streak, and immediately responded by hitting a home run in his next game. It’s safe to say he’s heating up. Johanfran Garcia continues to mash, going 5-for-16 with a home run this week. The right-handed hitting catcher is slashing .215/.282/.462 with one double and six home runs. He’s driven in 13 runs, scored eight, and stolen one base in 16 games. Garcia’s strikeout numbers have been a problem, but he’s been consistently hitting the ball hard.

Nate Baez went 4-for-11 with two walks and three doubles this week. The right-handed catcher is slashing .250/.383/.452 with nine doubles and four home runs. He’s driven in 16 runs, scored 20, and stolen three bases.

Greenville Drive (High-A)

Justin Gonzales might not be a real human. The right-handed-hitting outfielder/first baseman (he played first base for the first time since 2024 on Friday) went 10-for-21 with two doubles, one triple, and one home run this week. Gonzales is slashing .314/.405/.533 with eight doubles, two triples, and six home runs. He’s driven in 24 runs and scored 28 more. Also, his arm looks stronger than ever.

Jack Winnay went bananas this week. The right-handed hitting third baseman went 8-for-16 with a double and three home runs. Winnay is up to a .241/.420/.411 slash line with four doubles and five home runs this season. He’s driven in 18 runs and scored 26 more. The power is firing up, and he’s walked more times (31) than he’s struck out (30).

Antonio Anderson had his second straight big week. Since the start of May, the switch-hitting first baseman has seen his slash line jump from .098/.235/.122 to .214/.313/.314. He has two doubles, one triple, one home run, 10 RBI, and nine runs scored.

He’s slashing .297/.348/.531 with 12 doubles, two triples, and six home runs. Azocar has 22 RBI, 30 runs scored, and seven steals.

Skylar King had his best week of the season, going 7-for-19 with three steals. The left-handed hitting outfielder is slashing .211/.321/.342 with three doubles and four home runs. He’s driven in 15 runs, scored 21 more, and stolen 11 bases.
