Red Sox Prospect Update: Jojo Ingrassia, Ahbram Liendo, Jason Gilman snap cold streaks

Boston Red Sox pitching prospects have continued to shine at every level of the minor league system. We’re seeing some of the same names dominate each week. However, some struggling arms (and bats) are beginning to come alive.

Could this week be the start of a turnaround for a few big names in the system who have gotten off to chilly starts to the year? That’s what we’re here to keep track of.

Red Sox Prospect Update: Jojo Ingrassia, Ahbram Liendo, Jason Gilman snap cold streaks

Worcester Red Sox (Triple-A)

Mikey Romero this week went 5-for-11 with a double and a triple in three games, even swiping his first bag of the year. The left-handed-hitting infielder is slashing .226/.286/.342 with 10 doubles, two triples, and three home runs. He’s driven in 23 runs, scored 21, and stolen one base.

Tyler McDonough was promoted back up to Triple-A (he’s spent time there in previous years and been productive). The switch-hitting utility picked up where he left off with Worcester in the past. McDonough went 4-for-11 with a double and a home run. He drove in two runs, scored three, and stole one base.

Braiden Ward didn’t hit well in May, but is off to a hot start in June. The left-handed-hitting outfielder went 7-for-23 with two doubles and a home run this week. Of course, he stole three bases and made some highlight plays in the field. Ward is slashing .248/.395/.368 with eight doubles, one triple, and two home runs. He’s driven in 14 runs, scored 24, and stolen 27 bases.

Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A)

Ahbram Liendo had one of the best weeks of his professional career. The right-handed-hitting infielder went 8-for-19 with two doubles, two home runs (including a grand slam), a steal, and 13 RBI (that’s not a typo). Liendo is slashing .206/.281/.333 with five doubles, two triples, and three home runs this year. He’s driven in 26 runs, scored 20, and stolen nine bases.

Brooks Brannon capped off another strong week with a 464-foot home run. The first baseman also played some phenomenal defense. Brannon is slashing .287/.409/.630 eight doubles, one triple, and nine home runs. The right-handed-hitter has 28 RBI, 14 runs scored, and one steal.

Johanfran Garcia went 7-for-17 with a double and a home run. The right-handed-hitting catcher is slashing .262/.318/.500 with two doubles and nine home runs. He’s driven in 21 runs, scored 18, and stolen one base.

Nelly Taylor continued to turn his season around with another positive week. The left-handed-hitting outfielder went 5-for-16 with a double and two steals. He drew more walks (4) than he struck out (3). Taylor is slashing .168/.286/.262 with eight doubles and two home runs. He’s driven in nine runs, scored 25, and stolen 17 bases.

Anthony Eyanson allowed five hits over five shutout innings. The right-handed pitcher walked one batter and struck out three. Eyanson has a 1.17 ERA, .143 BAA, and 0.73 WHIP in nine starts between High-A and Double-A. He has 53 strikeouts and 10 walks in 38 1/3 innings between the two levels.

Gage Ziehl had arguably his best start of the season on Sunday. The right-handed pitcher allowed one run on five hits over six innings. He struck out a season-high (and tied a career-best) eight batters and walked one. Ziehl has a 4.98 ERA, .299 BAA, and 1.43 WHIP in nine starts. He has 49 strikeouts and nine walks in 43 1/3 innings.

Greenville Drive (High-A)

Jojo Ingrassia tossed four shutout innings, allowing just two hits. The left-handed pitcher struck out six batters and didn’t walk any. Ingrassia has a 1.53 ERA, .164 BAA, and 1.08 WHIP in six appearances (four starts). He has 24 strikeouts and nine walks in 17 2/3 innings.

Marcus Phillips had what was easily the best start of his season. The right-handed pitcher surrendered one hit over 4 1/3 scoreless innings. He struck out five batters and walked two. Phillips has a 7.62 ERA, .264 BAA, and 1.76 WHIP in nine outings (eight starts). He has 34 strikeouts and 22 walks in 28 1/3 innings.

Kyson Witherspoon continued his dominant run with his first professional win. The right-handed pitcher allowed one run on four hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out six batters and walked one. Witherspoon has a 5.05 ERA, .259 BAA, and 1.46 WHIP in 10 starts. He has 42 strikeouts and 22 walks in 41 innings.

Jack Winnay went just 3-for-13 this week, but he hit two more home runs. He also walked four times compared to just three strikeouts. The right-handed-hitting corner infielder is slashing .242/.433/.464 with four doubles and 10 home runs. He’s driven in 26 runs and scored 38. The 2025 13th-round pick has more walks (47) than strikeouts (43).

Ronny Hernandez went 3-for-9 with a home run and more walks (2) than strikeouts (1). The left-handed-hitting catcher is slashing .350/.469/.750 with four doubles and four home runs in 49 plate appearances. He’s driven in 10 runs and scored 10. Hernandez has nine walks and just four strikeouts.

Salem RidgeYaks (Single-A)

Jason Gilman had the best start of his professional career this week. The left-handed pitcher allowed two hits over a career-high six scoreless innings. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out a new best of 10. Gilman has a 2.59 ERA, .193 BAA, and 1.11 WHIP in seven appearances (four starts). The 2025 16th-round pick has 36 strikeouts and 10 walks in 24 1/3 innings.

Kleyver Salazar went 5-for-17 with a pair of home runs (including a grand slam) this week. The right-handed-hitting catcher is slashing .230/.350/.399 with 10 doubles and five home runs. He’s driven in 23 runs, scored 23, and stolen four bases.

Skylar King went 5-for-19 with two home runs of his own. He also walked five times compared to just four strikeouts. The left-handed-hitting outfielder is slashing .210/.321/.364 with four doubles and seven home runs. He’s driven in 21 runs, scored 27, and stolen 17 bases.

Andruw Musett is back and already mashing. The right-handed-hitting catcher/first baseman went 6-for-12 with two doubles and three RBI this week. Musett has a .353/.476/.441 slash line with three doubles in 10 games. He’s driven in five runs and scored four.

Givian Sirvania went 4-for-13 with three walks and three steals this week. The right-handed-hitting utility is slashing .300/.400/.333 with one double in 10 games in Single-A. He’s driven in four runs, scored two, and stolen seven bases in seven attempts.
