The 2026 minor league season is winding down. However, we still have time to enjoy the lower levels as they make a playoff push.
Some of the 2026 draft picks are showing off recently, while Johanfran Garcia and Justin Gonzales are flexing their muscles in Double-A. Perhaps most exciting was the return of a certain celly watch nearly a year in the making. Stay tuned.
Red Sox Prospect Update: Johanfran Garcia, Luke Heyman in the clutch, Owen Hull
Worcester Red Sox (Triple-A)
Jedixson Paez tossed five innings, allowing one run on one hit. He struck out a season-high eight batters without walking any. The right-handed pitcher easily had his best start since being promoted to Triple-A. However, it could be a short stay with Worcester. The Red Sox might need a starter with Sonny Gray’s status in question.
Franklin Arias went 5-for-18 with two doubles and two RBI this week. The right-handed-hitting middle infielder is slashing .310/.392/.554 with 24 doubles, one triple, and 23 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A. He’s driven in 76 runs, scored 65, and stolen six bases.
Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A)
Johanfran Garcia had an eye-popping week. The right-handed-hitting catcher went 10-for-18 with three home runs and eight RBI this week. He led the team in homers and would’ve led in RBI if it weren’t for someone else we’ll talk about in a moment. Garcia is slashing .293/.342/.503 with 10 doubles and 17 home runs. He’s driven in 51 runs, scored 40, and stolen three bases.
Justin Gonzales went 10-for-24 with two doubles and a home run this week. He also led the team with nine RBI. The right-handed-hitting outfielder is slashing .282/.397/.479 with 14 doubles, three triples, and 19 home runs between High-A and Double-A (.375/.457/.625 in nine games since being promoted to Portland). Gonzales has driven in 68 runs, scored 80, and stolen 12 bases. Meanwhile, he continues to prove you shouldn’t run on him.
Brooks Brannon went 5-for-18 with a double, a home run, and four RBI this week. The right-handed-hitting first baseman is slashing .283/.364/.570 with 26 doubles, two triples, and 20 home runs. He’s driven in 65 runs, scored 45, and stolen two bases.
Hayden Mullins allowed four hits over 5 2/3 innings in his start this week. The left-handed pitcher struck out five batters and walked one. Mullins has a 4.41 ERA, .206 BAA, and 1.35 WHIP in 21 games (19 starts) between Double-A and Triple-A. He has 120 strikeouts and 50 walks in 83 2/3 innings.
Erik Rivera tossed five shutout innings over three appearances out of the bullpen this week. The left-handed pitcher allowed one hit and no walks while striking out nine batters. Rivera has a 5.43 ERA, .227 BAA, and 1.55 WHIP in 32 appearances in Double-A. He has 81 strikeouts and 38 walks in 54 2/3 innings.
Greenville Drive (High-A)
Owen Hull hasn’t stopped hitting since getting here. The 2026 second-round draft pick went 8-for-20 with four doubles, a home run, and five RBI this week. He’s slashing .338/.447/.532 with nine doubles and two home runs. The left-handed-hitting outfielder’s driven in 15 runs, scored 15, and stolen one base. Hull has more walks (15) than strikeouts (13).
Jake Schaffner arguably had his best week since being drafted in the first round in 2026. The left-handed-hitting shortstop went 8-for-18 with a triple, four RBI, and a steal. Schaffner is slashing .301/.356/.398 with four doubles and two triples. He’s driven in 13 runs, scored 15, and stolen five bases.
Luke Heyman went 4-for-16 but made sure all four hits counted. He hit a double, two home runs, and drove in seven runs. The only hit that didn’t go for extra bases was a walk-off single. Heyman is slashing .237/.360/.451 with 15 doubles, one triple, and 19 home runs between Single-A and High-A. He’s driven in 63 runs and scored 52.
Isaiah Jackson has had a semi-quiet, incredible year. He’s an elite defender in the outfield and has been mashing with the bat. The left-handed hitter went 7-for-20 with a double, a home run, four RBI, and two steals. Jackson’s slashing .241/.344/.465 with 17 doubles, two triples, and 20 home runs. He’s driven in 66 runs, scored 63, and stolen 10 bases.
Nazzan Zanetello went 6-for-18 with a double, a triple, a home run, an RBI, and a steal. The right-handed-hitting utility is slashing .222/.333/.444 with six doubles, one triple, and four home runs in 26 games in High-A. He’s driven in 11 runs, scored 14, and stolen five bases.
Jason Gilman allowed two unearned runs on two hits over 5 1/3 innings in his start. He struck out 10 batters and walked one. The left-handed pitcher has a 3.19 ERA, .188 BAA, and 1.23 WHIP in 18 outings (13 starts) between Single-A and High-A. He has 106 strikeouts and 41 walks in 73 1/3 innings.
Brady Tygart allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits over six innings in his lone appearance this week. He walked two batters and struck out nine. The right-handed pitcher has a 3.12 ERA, .117 BAA, and 0.75 WHIP in four appearances in High-A. He has 24 strikeouts and six walks in 17 1/3 innings at the level.
Yordanny Monegro made his first appearance in over a year. The right-handed pitcher didn’t allow a run or a hit in 1 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked three. It was just great to see the most electrifying pitcher in the organization back on the mound.
Salem RidgeYaks (Single-A)
Andruw Musett went 3-for-8 with a home run and three RBI. He walked as many times (2) as he struck out (2). The right-handed-hitting catcher/first baseman holds a .289/.402/.465 slash line with 12 doubles, two triples, and four home runs. He’s driven in 30 runs, scored 27, and stolen two bases.
Martin Shelar had his first big week, going 4-for-16 with two doubles, a home run, five RBI, and a steal. The right-handed-hitting outfielder is slashing .200/.317/.343 with two doubles and a home run in nine games. He’s driven in six runs, scored four, and stolen two bases.
Anderson Fermin went 6-for-14 with a double and more walks (3) than strikeouts (1). The switch-hitting outfielder is slashing .248/.396/.327 with eight doubles, three triples, and one home run. He’s driven in 24 runs, scored 35, and stolen 11 bases.
Leighton Finley saved his best performance of the season for one of his last. The right-handed pitcher allowed four hits over six shutout innings (career-high). He walked two batters and struck out nine. Finley has a 4.69 ERA, .284 BAA, and 1.58 WHIP in 21 games (17 starts). He has 97 strikeouts and 49 walks in 96 innings.
Ethan Walker allowed two unearned runs on three hits over four innings. He struck out seven batters without walking any. The left-handed pitcher has a 3.19 ERA, .184 BAA, and 1.29 WHIP in 15 games (four starts). He has 65 strikeouts and 30 walks in 48 innings.
