The 2026 season continues to be cursed for the Boston Red Sox. Another pitcher went down on Sunday with the injury to Ranger Suárez, and the offense has been completely lifeless.
However, the minor league system is still bringing all types of excitement. There are names to watch all the way throughout the system, and the FCL season is even here (we won’t talk about that much, but Conrad Cason hit two home runs in the first game of the season).
Red Sox Prospect Update: Johanfran Garcia breakout, Jacob Mayers and Anthony Eyanson deal
Worcester Red Sox (Triple-A)
Angel Bastardo tossed two more scoreless innings this week. The right-handed pitcher surrendered one hit and one walk while striking out three batters. Bastardo has yet to give up a run over five innings in Triple-A. He has allowed just one hit and four walks with eight strikeouts.
Allan Castro went just 3-for-21 this week. However, the switch-hitter had a double, a home run, and seven RBI. Castro’s slashing .184/.252/.311 with one double and four home runs. He’s driven in 20 runs, scored 13 more, and stolen six bases.
Braiden Ward went 4-for-16 this week with his first two extra-base hits of the season (a triple and a home run). The left-handed hitting outfielder is slashing .286/.474/.375 with one triple and one home run. He’s driven in seven runs, scored 15 more, and stolen 12 bases.
Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A)
Franklin Arias had a down week, I guess. The right-handed hitting shortstop went 6-for-24 (.250) with a double and a home run. Unsurprisingly, the homer tied the game in the top of the ninth, as Arias seems to have a flair for the dramatics. The 20-year-old is slashing .359/.433/.731 with five doubles and eight home runs (hit eight homers in all of 2025). He’s driven in 20 runs, scored 16 more, and stolen two bases.
Johanfran Garcia had an incredible week. The right-handed hitting catcher hit three home runs (including one off Gerrit Cole) and drove in eight runs. Garcia is slashing .194/.265/.516 with one double and three home runs. He’s driven in nine runs, scored five more, and stolen one base in eight games.
Will Turner went 5-for-16 with two homers this week. The left-handed hitting outfielder is slashing .220/.434/.390 with two doubles, one triple, and two home runs. He’s driven in nine runs, scored nine more, and stolen six bases.
Quick shoutout to Nelly Taylor, who hit his first Double-A homer this week.
Gage Ziehl had what was easily his best start of the season on Tuesday. The right-handed pitcher allowed two runs on five hits over a season-high seven innings. He struck out three batters and didn’t walk any. If it wasn’t for former top prospect Marco Luciano (who is way too good for Double-A) hitting two solo home runs, Ziehl would have been nearly untouchable.
Hayden Mullins allowed two runs on two hits over six innings on Sunday in a game he didn’t start (because a rehabbing Justin Slaten threw the first inning). The left-handed pitcher walked one batter and tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts. Mullins has a 3.18 ERA, .123 BAA, and 1.01 WHIP in five appearances (four starts). He has 34 strikeouts compared to 12 walks in 22 2/3 innings.
Greenville Drive (High-A)
Anthony Eyanson walked three batters in his start this week. Those were the first three walks of his professional career. Despite the walks, everything else was fantastic. Eyanson gave up just one hit over 3 2/3 scoreless innings. He struck out seven batters. The right-handed pitcher has a 0.44 ERA, .104 BAA, and 0.49 WHIP over five starts. He has 34 strikeouts compared to three walks in 20 1/3 innings. Eyanson was promoted to Double-A on Sunday.
Alex Bouchard has been incredible in 2026, including a significant bump to his velocity. He allowed one run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings this week. Bouchard struck out four batters and walked one. The right-handed pitcher has a 1.65 ERA, .207 BAA, and 1.29 WHIP in four appearances. He has 13 strikeouts compared to nine walks in 16 1/3 innings.
Devin Futrell continues to quietly dominate. The right-handed pitcher allowed one run on three hits over 5 2/3 innings this week. He fanned five batters and walked two. Futrell has a 0.77 ERA, .115 BAA, and 0.60 WHIP over five appearances (two starts) between Single-A and High-A. He has 23 strikeouts and five walks in 23 1/3 innings between the two levels.
Yoeilin Cespedes went 9-for-23 (.391) with two doubles and three home runs this week. The right-handed hitting infielder is slashing .300/.372/.600 with 12 doubles and six home runs in High-A. He’s driven in 20 runs and scored 20 more. Cespedes is now halfway to his double total last season (24) and over halfway to his 2025 home run total (10) despite having less than 25% of the plate appearances.
Justin Gonzales went 8-for-20 (.400) with a double, a triple, and a home run this week. The right-handed hitting outfielder is slashing .302/.385/.500 with five doubles, one triple, and four home runs. He’s driven in 18 runs and scored 19 more.
Salem RidgeYaks (Single-A)
Enddy Azocar continued his scorching ways, going 7-for-20 (.350) with two doubles and a home run this week. The right-handed outfielder is slashing .280/.336/.500 with eight doubles, one triple, and four home runs. He’s driven in 17 runs, scored 20 more, and stolen three bases. Azocar leads the team in batting average, slugging percentage, RBI, runs, doubles, and home runs.
Starlyn Nunez had his first spark plug week of the season (he had a lot last year). The switch-hitting infielder went 5-for-16 (.313) with five walks (.500 OBP), two homers, and two steals. Nunez is slashing .236/.337/.416 with three doubles, two triples, and three home runs. He’s driven in 13 runs, scored 15 more, and stolen nine bases.
Dylan Brown allowed one unearned run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out seven batters and walked three. Brown has a 2.31 ERA, .181 BAA, and 1.20 WHIP in five starts. The left-handed pitcher has 32 strikeouts compared to 13 walks in 23 1/3 innings.
Myles Patton surrendered just two hits over five scoreless innings. The left-handed pitcher struck out a career-high six batters and walked two. Patton has a 4.41 ERA, .220 BAA, and 1.35 WHIP in four games (two starts). He has 18 strikeouts compared to nine walks in 16 1/3 innings.
Jacob Mayers allowed one hit over four shutout innings and picked up his first career save this week. The right-handed pitcher walked one batter and tied a career-high with four strikeouts. Mayers has a 2.63 ERA, .213 BAA, and 1.46 WHIP in four games (two starts). He has 14 strikeouts compared to 10 walks in 13 2/3 innings.
Ethan Walker allowed two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings. He walked one batter and tied a career-high with nine strikeouts. Walker has a 4.12 ERA, .155 BAA, and 1.42 WHIP in five games. He has 31 strikeouts compared to 17 walks in 19 2/3 innings.
Barrett Morgan allowed one hit over 3 2/3 scoreless innings. He walked one batter and set a career-high with seven strikeouts. Morgan has a 0.96 ERA, .206 BAA, and 1.18 WHIP in four games (one start). The right-handed pitcher has 15 strikeouts compared to four walks in 9 1/3 innings.
