This week's Boston Red Sox prospect watch is packed to the brim with home runs, RBI, and strikeouts, right after the big league team won eight of its last 10 games.
We were so overloaded with incredible performances from the week that we even had to make some tough choices about who would be included in the rundown. Luckily for us, these players were absolutely undeniable.
Red Sox Prospect Update: Allan Castro, Antonio Anderson stays hot, Louis Andujar
Worcester Red Sox (Triple-A)
Allan Castro went 8-for-23 with a double and two home runs this week. The switch-hitting outfielder drove in eight runs, scored five, and stole one base. Castro is slashing .237/.307/.361 with seven doubles, one triple, and eight home runs. He’s driven in 41 runs, scored 33, and stolen 15 bases.
Mikey Romero went 6-for-18 with two home runs, one steal, and a team-high nine RBI. The left-handed-hitting infielder slashed .240/.305/.384 with 11 doubles, two triples, and eight home runs. He’s driven in 39 runs, scored 31, and stolen two bases.
Nathan Hickey went 4-for-10 with a pair of doubles and a pair of home runs this week. The left-handed-hitting first baseman is slashing .200/.345/.400 with five doubles and six home runs. He’s driven in 16 runs and scored 20.
Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A)
Franklin Arias went 6-for-16 with a double and two home runs. He walked six times and only struck out twice. The right-handed-hitting shortstop is slashing .332/.418/.602 with 16 doubles, one triple, and 17 home runs. He’s driven in 47 runs, scored 46, and stolen five bases.
Brooks Brannon went 7-for-19 with two doubles, two home runs, and a team-high seven RBI. The right-handed-hitting first baseman is slashing .277/.370/.554 with 13 doubles, one triple, and 12 home runs. He’s driven in 43 runs, scored 23, and stolen two bases.
Marvin Alcantara went 5-for-13 with a double and a home run. The right-handed-hitting infielder is slashing .240/.291/.375 with 16 doubles, one triple, and six home runs. He’s driven in 30 runs, scored 32, and stolen 15 bases.
Jack Winnay went 7-for-20 with two doubles and a home run. The right-handed-hitting corner infielder is slashing .289/.386/.526 with three doubles and two home runs since being promoted to Double-A. He’s driven in four runs and scored nine.
Ahbram Liendo continues to be one of the best hitters in the organization over the last few weeks. The right-handed hitter went 5-for-15 with a double, five RBI, and a steal. Liendo is slashing .229/.311/.366 with nine doubles, two triples, and five home runs. He’s scored 32 runs and stolen 15 bases. Meanwhile, Liendo’s already driven in a career-high 41 runs.
Blake Wehunt allowed one hit over five shutout innings on Sunday. The right-handed pitcher struck out nine batters and walked four. Wehunt has a 3.38 ERA, .230 BAA, and 1.19 WHIP in 12 starts. He has 66 strikeouts and 16 walks in 48 innings.
Jedixson Paez came in for relief of Wehunt and kept the dominance going. The right-handed pitcher allowed one hit over four scoreless innings. He struck out eight batters and didn’t walk any. Paez has a 4.26 ERA, .209 BAA, and 0.88 WHIP in 11 appearances (five starts). He has 35 strikeouts and four walks in 31 2/3 innings.
Gage Ziehl allowed one run on six hits over five innings in his start this week. The right-handed pitcher struck out eight batters and walked one. Ziehl has a 3.94 ERA, .273 BAA, and 1.27 WHIP in 13 starts. He has 72 strikeouts and 12 walks in 64 innings.
Greenville Drive (High-A)
Luke Heyman went 7-for-21 with two home runs. The right-handed-hitting catcher is slashing .231/.366/.466 with eight doubles, one triple, and 14 home runs in 65 games between Single-A and High-A. He has 41 RBI and 33 runs scored.
Antonio Anderson has been Greenville’s best hitter for the last month or so, and that continued this week. The switch-hitting infielder went 7-for-18 with three doubles. Anderson is slashing .255/.355/.411 with eight doubles, one triple, and four home runs. He’s driven in 21 runs, scored 24 more, and stolen one base.
Mason White went 6-for-19 with a double and two home runs this week. The left-handed-hitting infielder is slashing .267/.359/.511 with 12 doubles, three triples, and 12 home runs. He’s driven in 37 runs and scored 31.
Joe Vogatsky had an incredible week. The right-handed pitcher allowed four hits over 7 1/3 shutout innings in two appearances out of the bullpen. He struck out eight batters and walked one. Vogatsky has a 4.94 ERA, .270 BAA, and 1.46 WHIP in 19 appearances. He has 55 strikeouts and 18 walks in 47 1/3 innings.
Salem RidgeYaks (Single-A)
Louis Andujar went 6-for-17 with his first Single-A home run and five RBI this week. The right-handed-hitting shortstop is slashing .162/.252/.212 with two doubles and one home run since being promoted to Salem. He’s driven in nine runs, scored nine, and stolen three bases.
Andrews Opata went 6-for-19 with a home run and four steals this week. The right-handed-hitting outfielder is slashing .250/.367/.371 with nine doubles, two triples, and five home runs. He’s driven in 27 runs, scored 48 runs, and stolen 37 bases.
Jason Gilman allowed two hits over six shutout innings en route to a win in his lone start this week. The left-handed pitcher struck out nine batters and walked two. Gilman has a 2.45 ERA, .189 BAA, and 1.26 WHIP in 11 games (seven starts). He has 60 strikeouts and 24 walks in 40 1/3 innings.
Christian Foutch allowed one run on three hits over 4 2/3 innings in his start this week. The right-handed pitcher struck out eight batters and walked one. Foutch has a 6.18 ERA, .203 BAA, and 1.88 WHIP in 14 games (10 starts). He has 54 strikeouts and 46 walks in 39 1/3 innings.
