On April 27, the Boston Red Sox shipped Franklin Arias and Brandon Clarke to High-A and Hayden Mullins went to Double-A. But they weren't done with their flurry of promotions.
Now, on Tuesday, they are making a few more moves. The Red Sox have promoted right-handed pitcher Matt McShane from Single-A (Salem) to High-A (Greenville). At the same time, right-handed pitcher Ben Hansen is leaving extended spring training and heading to Single-A.
Infielder Fraymi De Leon is leaving High-A to go back to Single-A. That move is likely due to the numbers game. With Arias in Greenville, the already crowded infield needed to make some sort of move to accommodate the recently-promoted players. De Leon is a great defender with plus speed, he just needs to get the bat going. Don't give up on the 20-year-old, though. Look at what Ahbram Liendo has managed to do in Double-A this year.
McShane was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates this offseason in a trade for Chase Shugart. The 22-year-old has a 0.63 ERA, .185 BAA, and 0.98 WHIP in seven appearances out of the bullpen. He's struck out 20 batters compared to four walks in 14 1/3 innings. McShane is giving the Red Sox great early returns on their trade.

The relief pitcher was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates for Chase Shugart this offseason and has a 0.63 ERA with 20 Ks in 14 1/3 innings this season.
Hansen was a 20th-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. The 23-year-old comes from BYU, where he admittedly didn't put up the strongest numbers. He's a big pitcher (6'6") and can get his fastball over 95 MPH. Hansen also possesses a curveball, cutter, and changeup.
We haven't gotten the chance to see Hansen in action since he was drafted. It appears the Red Sox feel he's ready for Salem.
Keep your ears and eyes open. Promotion season is officially upon us.
