The second half hasn't officially started, yet the Boston Red Sox are stocking up on roster reserves for a playoff push. On July 14, they signed former Detroit Tigers outfielder/designated hitter Jahmai Jones, then reunited with another recent Tiger later that same day.

Tommy Kahnle has signed with the Red Sox organization again, according to Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. The veteran has signed another minor league deal, as he did when he first joined the Red Sox in March.

Kahnle spent much of the first half of the season with Triple-A Worcester (where he'll soon return) where he posted a 1.40 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 21 strikeouts and 11 walks over 19.1 innings. He was called up to the Red Sox on June 4 and he let up eight runs on 12 hits with five strikeouts and six walks over nine innings of work.

Boston on July 1 designated Kahnle for assignment after his rough showing in the majors. However, he's still an inexpensive depth pitching option with playoff experience, and if the Red Sox were to make it that far, he could be a valuable addition to their bullpen stash in the event of any injuries.

Red Sox might have to face Junior Caminero in first series back from All-Star break following hand injury scare

The Red Sox will open their second half with a four-game series (including a Friday doubleheader) against the Tampa Bay Rays. After an injury scare during the All-Star Game, there's a chance that Boston might've gotten away without facing their star slugger, Junior Caminero.

Caminero was a starter for the American League's All-Star squad, but he didn't last longer than his first at-bat in the game. The third baseman took a Riley O'Brien sinker to the side of his left hand and immediately fell to the ground. As soon as he was able to stand up after a visit from a trainer, Caminero ran out of the game and down the dugout steps.

The 23-year-old was x-rayed during the game and it was quickly reported that his hand isn't broken. The Rays have classified him as day-to-day and Caminero announced that he plans to play Friday, according to MLB insider Bob Nightengale.

The Red Sox will have their work cut out for them if they want to maintain the nine-game winning streak they went on before the All-Star break, especially if Caminero is going to be in the Rays' lineup. Boston's pitching has been phenomenal in the last month and its offense is finally awake, but the amount of damage Caminero can do with one swing can't be understated.
