The Boston Red Sox could have a slew of pitching reinforcements returning before the playoffs begin, including Tanner Houck, Garrett Crochet, and maybe even Johan Oviedo and Kutter Crawford. Justin Slaten will not be among them.

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy on September 15 told reporters (including Tim Healey of The Boston Globe) that Slaten got a PRP injection in his arm to address a flexor issue. His season is over after multiple attempts to ramp up for a rehab assignment and eventual return.

Slaten has been quite injury prone over his three years with the Red Sox. He went on the injured list for the first time this season in early April and didn't return until mid-May. For the second straight year, he'll finish his season with less than 35 innings pitched.

The righty has dabbled in the extremes this season, finishing with a 4.60 ERA over 31.1 innings. In June, Slaten's worst month this year, he allowed nine runs on 17 hits over 11 outings. July was his best, during which he let up just one run on five hits over nine appearances. His WHIP has starkly increased over the past year, from 1.09 in 2025 to 1.37.

When the Red Sox can get Slaten's best, he's one of the biggest threats out of their bullpen. But he's often injured or prone to blowups that keep him from showing the best he can offer. It will be interesting to see his role next season when Boston has more healthy pitching depth it could push to the bullpen.

Red Sox confirm Kristian Campbell's season is over due to foot injury, ending breakout

Kristian Campbell's season has also ended prematurely due to an injury. The outfielder will be out for the rest of the year due to a left foot contusion, according to Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

The WooSox pulled Campbell from their September 8 game due to the injury. Even before the announcement of his IL stint, it was evident that Campbell's season could be over, as Worcester's last regular season game is on Septembet 20.

Campbell's injury ends a resurgent second half for the 24 year old. He slashed .311/.430/.497 over 51 games after the All-Star break and, had he been healthy, he might've been selected to come up and help the major league team while Ceddanne Rafaela and Eli White are injured.

Romy Gonzalez continues tear following arm injury scare with WooSox

On the same day Campbell was pulled from the WooSox's lineup, Romy Gonzalez was, too. An arm injury led to a week on the shelf for the utility infielder, but he joined the Triple-A lineup again on September 15.

Gonzalez has resumed the tear he was on before his arm flared up. He logged two hits, including a double, in his return and boosted his September slash line to .500/.520/.727 over six games. Gonzalez has hit so well lately that it could be time to call him back up to the major leagues to give Boston's slumping offense a boost.
