Many Boston Red Sox fans remain nostalgic for NESN's former announcing crew that featured Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy on the mic calling games, even 10 years after Orsillo's departure from the station. When some of those fans want to reminisce on their best broadcast moments or send some to others, they might pull up an iconic clip, which aired 19 years ago today, April 16, 2007.
On Patriots Day, the Los Angeles Angels came to Boston to play an early afternoon game at Fenway Park. Marathon Monday is always a spectacle in Massachusetts, of which the Red Sox are a central part, but activity in the stands took away from game action that day.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, J. D. Drew lifted a fly ball into foul territory by the third base line. Garrett Anderson chased it down to make a play, but not before a Sox fan in the crowd reached up and attempted to make the play themself.
They spared the Red Sox a foul out, but one fan didn't take kindly to the interference and hurled their slice of pizza at the fan. Orsillo and Remy followed the incident with a full breakdown on the broadcast, leading to a few iconic quotes such as: "What was that that came flyin' in?" and "Here comes the pizza."

At first, Remy thought the interfering fan was hit with mud, but after some "investigative reporting," he discovered that the flying food was a slice of pizza.
"Highly unnecessary," Orsillo said of the event, between poorly stifled laughs. No fan interference was called on the play, but pizza flew, nonetheless.
Of course, such an infraction by the throwing fan can't go unpunished, and Remy relayed to the viewing audience that the fan in the Patriots jacket had been "asked to leave the ballgame for ruining a good piece of pizza" — probably the best quote of the entire affair.
Red Sox fans have fond memories of the early 2000s broadcasts because the Curse of the Bambino was freshly broken and the team was relevant again after more than eight decades in the doldrums. But Orsillo and Remy also had unparalleled chemistry and gave fans many a hilarious moment to look back on, such as Pizzagate.
Orsillo is still beloved among Red Sox fans and he is showered with affection each time he comes to town. No matter how many incredible calls he makes in the San Diego Padres' booth, Red Sox fans will always remember him most for his iconic moments alongside Remy — only they could make a flying pizza so funny.
