If you've watched a Boston Red Sox game since July 30, you may have seen the players celebrate by sticking their arms out to their sides. They do the celebration after hits, as they round the bases for home runs, and even the players in the dugout get in on it.

The celebration originates from Boston's turbulent flight to Minnesota on July 27. Multiple players were left motion sick after the flight, which took a brief stop in Detroit before continuing through the choppy skies to Minnesota. The plane departed Boston at 7:30 p.m, ET, and the Red Sox didn't arrive at their final destination until around 1 a.m.

It didn't take the Red Sox long to turn their adversity into their new hit celebration. Their outward arms mimic plane wings as they poke fun at the turbulence that affected so many of their players over the Midwest.

Boston has taken the celebration to a new level during the following homestand. Players, including Trevor Story, were seen wearing t-shirts emblazoned with the silhouettes of Red Sox players doing their plane celebration. Wally the Green Monster is between them wearing the Red Sox's new City Connect hat, and the word "turbulence" is written across the images in script. Tim Healey of The Boston Globe tweeted a picture of Story in the shirt, and fans love the Sox's latest look.

This isn't the first time the Red Sox have turned an inside joke into a fashion item for the players to wear pregame. During his hot streak from June into July, Romy Gonzalez told reporters he was "tremendously locked in" at the plate. Soon enough, the Red Sox donned shirts decorated with their new catchphrase.

Boston has been able to use its new celebration often since its rocky flight to the Twin Cities. The Red Sox have won six of their eight games since their rough flight, and they show no signs of slowing down. They have a tough few series ahead, as they'll take on the Padres in San Diego and then the Astros in Houston — hopefully, they can keep the plane impressions going against two teams right alongside them in the playoff race.
