The Boston Red Sox's 2025-26 offseason and their players' success in the World Baseball Classic brought optimism to their fanbase before the regular season began. But since the season actually started, the vibes have shifted drastically.

Since Opening Day, Boston's bats have disappeared. Craig Breslow's offseason additions haven't performed well so far. The Red Sox's struggles with runners on base have picked up right where they left off last season. The newly revamped rotation — the one that was billed as one of the best in the American League — has looked lackluster besides ace Garrett Crochet.

Red Sox fans haven't taken these developments well. It's still early, barely even April, and Boston has plenty of time to adjust. But the early reactions to the Red Sox's first games are too good to ignore (as much as Red Sox Nation might want to forget some of these early losses).

Much of the frustration with the Red Sox's early losses is because they have the same issues over and over again. Last year's team lost countless close games because of a streaky lineup leading to an inability to advance runners, if anyone got on into scoring position in the first place.

The 2026 squad is experiencing more of the same — the Red Sox left 30 man on base in their three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds. They opened their series against the Houston Astros by striking out 12 times and logging just four hits.

Red Sox fans' social media reactions to Boston's bad start to 2026 have been hilarious

The Red Sox entered this season expecting their rotation to be much improved from last season, but Sonny Gray, Ranger Suárez and Johan Oviedo (who came out of the bullpen on March 30) have left much to be desired so far.

In fairness, the Red Sox slow-played Gray on the "veteran program" in spring training, and Suárez and Brayan Bello didn't feel they got enough ramp-up work during their time with their respective WBC teams. Fans will need at least a few more starts before officially declaring anyone a "bust," but they also hoped for the instant gratification of a scary starting rotation right when the season began. Crochet and Connelly Early delivered, at least.

Some reactions to the early-season blues have been more positive. The Red Sox had a rough 1-4 start to last season, then went on a five-game winning streak. They could pull off a similar fate this year once their pitchers find their footing and their bats adjust.

The Red Sox's 2025 season showed that they won't struggle as much as they do in the beginning of the season forever — they're a young team and take time to warm up, as all teams do, at different speeds. But as long as Sox fans stay this funny on the internet, we'll always have something good to watch.
