The Boston Red Sox will have a new look in 2025, and not just roster-wise. Boston's uniform rotation will also change next year.

The Red Sox are doing away with their road blue jerseys for 2025, per Adam Grossman, the team's chief marketing officer, initially reported by Chris Cotillo of MassLive. Boston will also get a second City Connect jersey, and the previous yellow Boston Marathon-inspired jersey will become part of the regular uniform cycle.

Grossman cited the popularity of the yellow jerseys as a reason for the change. The Red Sox have had great success on the field when they've donned their Marathon uniforms, and superstition could have some stake in their acclaim. Boston has a record of 35-13 in its City Connect uniform, which debuted in 2021.

Nike allows clubs that have City Connect jerseys to redesign them after a few seasons, and the Sox aren't the only team looking to switch up their look. The Houston Astros will also retire their popular, NASA-inspired "Space City" jersey at the end of the 2024 season to introduce a new City Connect concept next year.

The uniform cycle hasn't yet been announced, but the retirement of the blue jersey leaves gray as Boston's only road option. The Sox could wear red or yellow on the road next season, with red being the most likely choice, as the Marathon jerseys are Boston-specific.

Some Sox fans aren't thrilled about the impending retirement of the blue jersey. Road grays are classic but plain, and nearly every team has a gray set for the road. Boston also won the 2018 World Series in its blue jerseys, which gives them a bit of sentimental value. The yellow jerseys are a far cry from the Red Sox's usual color palette, so they're a strange addition to Boston's regular uniform rotation.

More games in the Marathon jerseys could mean more home wins for the Sox next year, though. If history is any indication, their new City Connect uniform could bring even more luck.
