Dominic Smith has become a fan favorite in Boston. He's played a solid stint as the Boston Red Sox's replacement for Triston Casas at first base, and he's only improved as he's spent more time with the club. He shined against the Kansas City Royals on Aug. 6.

The first baseman isn't known for his speed. When Seth Lugo fired a wild pitch and Smith hesitated at third base before charging home, the Royals thought they had a clear out at the plate.

But Smith pulled off an impressive swim move to dodge Lugo's crashing glove. He was called out at the plate at first, but a stellar challenge by Alex Cora and Boston's coaching staff secured a run and saved an out for the Sox.

Lugo walked Ceddanne Rafaela and was pulled, and Masataka Yoshida knocked a two-run single to plate three runs for the Red Sox in the inning — a rally started by Smith's savvy base running. The Red Sox's official Twitter paid homage to Smith's moment with an interesting post, to say the least.

Red Sox Twitter makes an inappropriate joke to shout out Dominic Smith

"Anyone who loves BDSM (Big Dom Smith Moments) is our friend without introduction," the post read.

The post only lasted a few minutes on Boston's main account before it was deleted, but the damage was done. Fans and other social media accounts screenshotted the tweet and kept it alive after the Sox attempted to bury it. Red Sox fan account @FenwayAttendee first made the joke in early June, so it will likely live on further in Red Sox fan communities.

The Red Sox Twitter admin was right, though, and fans won't let them forget it — A Big Dom Smith Moment kept the Red Sox alive against one of the toughest pitchers in the American League. Smith has been on a tear since the All-Star break and he's posted 11 doubles after play resumed.

There are surely many more big moments to come before Casas' impending return.
