Red Sox quiet April trade with White Sox has been providing huge returns at Triple-A
Boston Red Sox's rookie chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has made it his mission to improve the organization's pitching program.
From hiring Andrew Bailey to signing Cooper Criswell, Breslow has been largely successful in his pitching decisions. One of his many April trade acquisitions is already paying dividends in Triple-A.
The Red Sox acquired Bailey Horn from the White Sox organization in April. The 26-year-old righty was formerly with the Cubs organization where he and Breslow were already acquainted from his time as their director of pitching.
Whatever Breslow saw in Horn has come out in Triple-A with the Worcester Red Sox. Horn has allowed one hit in his his appearances (6 2/3 innings) with Worcester, and he's posted six strikeouts and three walks. His numbers reflect significant improvement from his early-season outings with the White Sox organization, where he allowed 13 runs in 10.1 innings.
Red Sox trade acquisition Bailey Horn has been great at Triple-A
Horn told Christopher Smith of MassLive that he's on board with the Red Sox's pitching plan and admires Breslow's work. Part of Breslow and Andrew Bailey's program is to have Boston's pitchers throw off-speed stuff more often, and the philosophy has worked so far.
Horn has been urged to use his cutter more and followed the advice. Given his output so far, it's hard to argue with the newfound approach.
Baseball America suggested that the 26-year-old would be primed for his MLB debut this season. Horn may be destined for the big leagues with the Red Sox soon if he can keep up his excellent stretch in Worcester.
