Heavy hitters thrived in the Boston Red Sox minor league system this week, including a first, a walk-off and a breakout series for two players. However, Boston's pitching prospects get their flowers in this prospect watch.

In Triple-A, Bryan Mata made two appearances (one start). The right-handed pitcher allowed one unearned run on three hits in the combined outings. He struck out three batters and walked three in 4 1/3 innings. Mata needs to be added to the Major League roster before July 15 or be subject to waivers, and he's giving the Red Sox reason to believe in him.
