The Boston Red Sox continue to put themselves in a strange situation regarding the playoff race. They can't seem to gain any ground for a wild card spot.

However, the minor league system is buzzing. The "Big Three" were promoted to Triple-A, with Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel making their Worcester debuts (Marcelo Mayer has been dealing with an injury).

Now, they are joined by another member of Nut Town. On Sunday, Kristian Campbell was promoted to Triple-A.

This is incredibly impressive, considering he started the year in High-A. After dominating for 40 games, Campbell got the promotion to Double-A. He was on a completely different level with the Sea Dogs.

The right-handed hitting second baseman/centerfielder/shortstop slashed .362/.463/.582 with 17 doubles, three triples, and eight home runs in 56 games. He drove in 35 runs, scored 48 more, and stole 17 bases.

Campbell has excelled offensively, all the while fielding multiple positions. He's strong at both second base and center field. Meanwhile, he's looked solid at shortstop and third base in limited opportunities. Worcester can plug him into multiple positions, so you don't need to worry about playing time.

Roman Anthony went 5-for-22 with two walks and two doubles this week. The left-handed hitting outfielder drove in one run and scored two more. Anthony looked good in a lot of his plate appearances despite the numbers not being fantastic. There was plenty to love in his first six games.

Kyle Teel went just 2-for-17 with two walks this week. The left-handed hitting catcher drove in one run and scored two more. Like with Anthony, Teel looked much better than the numbers. There's no reason to believe he won't right the ship as he gets more time.

Chase Meidroth went 4-for-13 with eight walks this week. The right-handed hitting infielder is slashing .294/.445/.395 with 18 doubles and six home runs. He's driven in 46 runs, scored 75 more, and stolen 12 bases. Meidroth continues to be a star in his role.

Richard Fitts continued his fantastic month. The right-handed pitcher allowed one run on five hits over five innings. He struck out five batters compared to just one walk. Fitts has a 4.42 ERA, .264 BAA, and 1.36 WHIP in 99 2/3 innings.

Quinn Priester had easily his best start in the Red Sox organization this week. The righty allowed two hits over five shutout innings. He didn't walk anyone and struck out one. Priester isn't a big strikeout guy, so please don't freak out over the low number and be happy that he dominated.

Shane Drohan made his return to the Red Sox organization this week and pitched in his first game since June 6. All things considered, this was very encouraging. The left-handed pitcher allowed one run on four hits over 3 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out three. There's room for improvement, but it's hard to complain about the start.

Luis Guerrero allowed no runs on two hits in 3 1/3 innings over two appearances this week. The righty reliever now has 6 1/3 straight scoreless innings. Guerrero has a 3.61 ERA, .213 BAA, and 1.42 WHIP in 36 appearances. He has 64 strikeouts compared to 30 walks in 47 1/3 innings.

Boston Red Sox Double-A (Portland)

Phillip Sikes has been one of the hottest hitters in the Red Sox system over the last few weeks. The right-handed hitting outfielder is 26-for-69 (.377) with seven doubles, one triple, and four home runs since July 28. Sikes is up to a .266/.351/.351 slash line with 22 doubles, one triple, and 11 home runs. He's driven in 42 runs, scored 57 more, and stolen 19 bases.

Hayden Mullins allowed one run on four hits in five innings this week. The left-handed pitcher struck out four batters and walked four. Mullins has a 4.12 ERA, .224 BAA, and 1.37 WHIP in 19 appearances (17 starts). He's struck out 102 batters compared to 40 walks in 74 1/3 innings.

Bryan Gonzalez is on an eight-game hitting streak. More impressively, he's only struck out once over the last five games (usually a massive issue for Gonzalez). The right-handed hitting first baseman/outfielder is slashing .251/.321/.491 with 10 doubles, two triples, and 17 home runs. He's driven in 51 runs, scored 50 more, and stolen 12 bases.

Justin Riemer is hitting .231 (.375 OBP) in 14 games for Greenville. The right-handed hitting infielder has just two extra-base hits (doubles) but seems to be more of a contact/OBP bat anyway. He's driven one run, scored 10 more, and stolen two bases. Riemer has the same amount of walks (10) as strikeouts (10).
