After the Boston Red Sox designated reliever Chase Anderson for assignment on July 28, he quickly found a new home with the Texas Rangers.

The veteran signed a minor-league deal with Texas on Aug. 5, but the arrangement didn't last long. Anderson was DFA'd by the Rangers on Sept. 12 to make room on the 40-man roster for top pitching prospect Kumar Rocker.

The move paid off for Texas. Barring any extreme circumstances, it's out of contention for a Wild Card spot, but Rocker's first MLB appearance went exceedingly well. He posted four three-hit, one-run innings and collected seven strikeouts and 17 whiffs.

Anderson's Rangers tenure didn't go quite so well. He made two appearances in the big leagues for Texas and clocked a 9.95 ERA with five walks in 6.1 innings. He didn't fare much better with Triple-A Round Rock, where he logged a 6.94 ERA with five walks in 11.2 frames.

Anderson was a starter earlier in his 11-year MLB career and his transition to the bullpen began in 2019 during his final year with the Brewers. He appeared as an opener once during his tenure with the Red Sox, but it seems doubtful that Anderson will get a shot in another starting rotation.

Anderson will likely clear waivers and he'll have the option to elect free agency or remain in the minor leagues with Texas. He'll be a free agent at the end of the campaign anyway, so electing free agency would speed up the process for the veteran.
