The New England Patriots are finally back in the Super Bowl after three years without a playoff appearance (as football fans around the country outside of the Northeast boo and roll their eyes).
The Super Bowl is the United States' sporting event of the year, attended by die hard fans and superstars alike. Patriots fans in 2025-26 have grown used to seeing one celebrity guest, in particular, even in the regular season.
Rapper Cardi B has grown into a passionate Patriots fan since her relationship with wide receiver Stefon Diggs began in summer 2025. She's been in the crowd during many games at Gillette Stadium, made reaction videos on Instagram and she even gave her son a Patriots themed tree for Christmas.
But years before she entered a relationship with Diggs, Cardi B was a Boston sports fan. Specifically, she's a Boston Red Sox fan.
Long before Cardi B was attending games at Gillette Stadium, she was a Red Sox fan
Cardi B's fandom seems strange, since her voice drips with a New York accent and she reps The Bronx, her hometown, also the home of the New York Yankees, whenever possible. But she grew up surrounded by Red Sox fans, so she became one herself.
"I'm a real die-hard Red Sox fan. I'm in their gang," Cardi B said during an appearance on the "Phenobars" podcast. "You know, growing up, it was like, all the best Dominican players there: David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez... I come from a Red Sox family."
Ortiz has even given Cardi B a shoutout before — during Boston's 2018 World Series run, he reposted a video of the rapper flexing her Red Sox fandom and saying it "runs in her blood." Cardi B dislikes the Yankees almost as much as Ortiz does, as well. She said she'd love to perform at Yankee Stadium, since it's so close to where she grew up, but it would make her a "traitor." Many Red Sox fans think the same, no doubt.
Football fans will surely be seeing a lot of Cardi B on Sunday's broadcast, just as Taylor Swift has dominated side discourse over the Kansas City Chiefs' run of dominance since the Patriots took a backseat in the postseason. Just know Cardi B isn't a bandwagon or fair-weather fan since she started her relationship with Diggs (no shade to Taylor). She said it herself: Boston sports are in her blood.
