In the weeks since the Boston Red Sox fired Alex Cora, their record hasn't substantially improved and they're no closer to Wild Card contention than they were during that April series in Baltimore. Craig Breslow's desperation swing hasn't worked out yet and Boston has given few signs that suggest that'll change.

Breslow is seemingly insistent that the Red Sox are a playoff team and he hopes to buy ahead of the deadline. He's reportedy already inquiring about right-handed bats around the league. But a recent surge of rumors makes it seem like Breslow might not be around long enough to see a trade through.

Jared Carrabis during the June 8 episode of the "Section 10" podcast seemingly insinuated that he knows something about Breslow's employment status. After co-host Steve Perrault discussed a trade deadline strategy that Breslow might attempt to save face with the organization, Carrabis asked: "What if he doesn't keep his job?"

He let his co-hosts sit with the question for a few seconds before saying he didn't know anything and changing the subject, but Carrabis has broken Red Sox news before. He knew about the Cora and coaching staff firings before local reporters dropped the shocking news and rumors about a potential Breslow firing could be no different.

Red Sox fans run wild with rumors that Craig Breslow could be fired soon

Fans were also running wild with speculation during Boston's series against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. John Henry was at the June 7 game, which they lost, 6-1, after an implosion from the bullpen. Red Sox fans will remember that surprising things happen after Henry appears on the road — Boston traded Rafael Devers weeks after a surprise meeting with ownership during a series in Kansas City and Henry and other front office members flew to Baltimore to fire Cora in April.

In the wake of the firing discourse, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe on June 8 reported that the Red Sox have not discussed firing Breslow and that the organization hasn't even considered making a change (subscription required). It's safe to say Red Sox fans are largely disappointed by this news.

However, if the front office was considering firing Breslow, it would never say it before it happened. The many reports about discord in the front office and problems with Breslow's messaging don't suggest things are going well internally.

Boston's offense is finally starting to turn a corner as some hitters who struggled at the beginning of the season have hit their stride, like Caleb Durbin and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. If the Red Sox can become a competitive team in time to buy before the trade deadline, Breslow might be able to save his job. If not, it seems like he isn't long for his place in the front office, regardless of Healey's report.
