Garrett Crochet has been unstoppable for the Boston Red Sox this season. Their bats, unfortunately, have been the opposite.
Crochet turned in another dominant outing against the Los Angeles Angels on June 25, racking up 10 strikeouts while yielding just three walks and three hits in seven innings of work. He threw 103 pitches, including 67 for strikes.
Unfortunately, the Red Sox bats scored just one run in support of Crochet while he was on the mound, leaving him with a no-decision as Boston lost by a final score of 3-2 in 10 innings.
Despite the disappointing ending, Crochet has now allowed two runs or fewer in 14 of his 17 starts this season — tying Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes for the most such starts among all MLB pitchers. Skenes knows a thing or two about not getting run support from his teammates, too, as his 4-7 record is hardly illustrative of his 2.12 ERA or his 110 strikeouts in 106 innings.

Garrett Crochet remains among best pitchers in baseball despite Red Sox's struggling offense
After a breakout season with the Chicago White Sox last year, Crochet has been dominant on the mound in his first season with the Red Sox. The 26-year-old is 7-4 with a 2.06 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 109 1/3 innings of work. He also leads the league with 135 strikeouts, making him an early frontrunner for the AL Cy Young award.
Crochet is also just the second pitcher in Red Sox history to record at least 110 strikeouts and fewer than 30 runs allowed through his first 17 starts in a season. He joins Hall of Famer and Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez, who accomplished the feat in 2000.
Despite posting a 2.13 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP and averaging 10 strikeouts per nine innings in seven starts at home, Crochet is still searching for his first win at Fenway Park this season. It sure would be nice if the Red Sox could give him some run support at his next scheduled start on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds.
