Alex Bregman's previous success at Fenway Park had baseball fans everywhere thinking he'd fit right in with the Boston Red Sox. In just 51 games, he's cemented himself as a star.
Bregman is slashing .299/.385/.553 with a .938 OPS — the best start to a season he's ever had in his 10-year playing career. The two-time All-Star and four-time MVP vote recipient looks like he feels right at home in Boston, and Bregman has said he's more than willing to stick around long-term.
Bregman told reporters on June 30 that he and his agent, Scott Boras, are "open to listening to anything that [the Red Sox] have to say" about a potential contract extension. He also said that finding somewhere he can call home for the rest of his career is a high priority.
“I expected to love playing here and I have definitely loved playing here,” Bregman said, via Chris Cotillo of MassLive. “It’s a great place to play baseball. Being able to play for this organization is awesome."

Bregman's comments have Red Sox fans clamoring for an extension as soon as possible. The third baseman is exactly the type of player Boston needs — he's a proven leader with years of postseason experience and accolades to his name. The Sox are also undeniably short on star power since the Rafael Devers trade, and signing Bregman may be the best possible way to put Devers' contract savings to good use.
The Red Sox have seen just how instrumental Bregman has been to their success during his stint on the injured list. The veteran has been sidelined since May 23 with a quad strain, which was diagnosed as "similar to the one he had in 2021," when his rehab took two months. Bregman has been recovering faster than expected, however, and may be able to return to action before the All-Star break.
Alex Bregman feeling 'close to 100 percent,' may return to Red Sox before the All-Star break
Alex Cora shared on June 25 that the outlook wasn't great for Bregman's return before the Midsummer Classic, but a few positive days of recovery seem to have drastically changed the team's perspective. Cora went as far as to say Bregman is feeling "close to 100 percent" before Boston's series opener against the Reds.
Bregman's impending return should be the boost the Red Sox need to stay in the American League East race ahead of the trade deadline. Bregman will be playing for the best possible contract, and to keep Boston alive when it counts.
With his first contract opt-out looming and an excellent body of work so far, the Red Sox need to focus on extending Bregman as soon as possible. He's arguably the main reason Boston ended up trading Devers away, and letting him walk for nothing would be unforgivable after the way his first contract uprooted one of the club's surest plans for the future. More importantly, though, Bregman is a great baseball player who suits Fenway Park and the Red Sox's needs well.
