The Boston Red Sox made it past the trade deadline without dealing anyone from their 40-man roster (though, maybe they should've).
The Red Sox sent prospects to the Cardinals and Dodgers to bolster their pitching staff, which leaves their roster packed and many of its issues unresolved. Boston still has an outfield logjam it didn't resolve and more middle infielders than it knows what to do with, split between the major and minor leagues.
The Sox seem primed to trade some of their roster bloat over the offseason to bolster their roster in areas of need, like the rotation or first base. Here are some Red Sox players who made it past the trade deadline with the team, but could be on the move this winter.
3 Red Sox who survived the 2025 trade deadline but will be gone in the offseason
Jarren Duran
Jarren Duran was the subject of countless trade rumors leading up to the July 31 trade deadline, but the Red Sox made it clear they wouldn't trade him. Not even a Joe Ryan deal with the Twins could entice Boston into giving up Duran.
Duran is still the odd man out in the Red Sox's outfield, though. He's regressed on both sides of the ball since his MVP-caliber season in 2024, although he's still having a solid year at the plate. Duran's speed is attractive to clubs that need a jolt on the base paths, and he has plenty of trade value left over from his 2024 campaign and the two years of team control remaining on his contract (three if he's traded after 2025).
Jhostynxon Garcia
Like Duran, top prospect Jhostynxon Garcia contributes to the Red Sox's outfield surplus. Garcia is knocking on Fenway Park's doors with a .291/.362/.533 slash line, .895 OPS, 12 homers and 36 RBI in 50 games in Triple-A — even if Rob Refsnyder walks in free agency or retires and Boston selects Garcia for 2026, it will have the same number of outfielders it has this year.
Garcia's trade value shot up this year after his outstanding first half, his promotion to Triple-A and his debut on multiple top-100 prospects lists. The 22-year-old Venezuela native was on deck to be dealt in the Ryan deal if the Red Sox could work something out, highlighting their willingness to trade him.
Vaughn Grissom
The Red Sox traded for Vaughn Grissom before the 2024 season when they sent former ace Chris Sale to the Braves. Grissom's tenure in Boston hasn't been memorable so far, as his first season was marred by injuries, leading to just 31 appearances in the big leagues, and he's spent all of 2025 in the minor leagues.
Boston had a golden opportunity to give Grissom another chance in the majors when Marcelo Mayer went on the injured list for his sprained wrist. Instead, the Red Sox summoned David Hamilton, who's struggled all season long, and they showed they're not high on Grissom in the process.
Grissom is yet another middle infielder in Boston's ranks, and it seems to have no real plan for his future. Luckily, he's redeemed his trade value this year after a great first half with the WooSox, to the tune of a .278/.345/.452 slash line with 24 doubles and 12 homers over 89 games. Grissom deserves an opportunity to play in the major leagues, and the Red Sox have telegraphed that it may come with another team.
