Xander Bogaerts continues to make Red Sox franchise history
I’m running out of ways to title articles about Xander Bogaerts setting or tying Boston Red Sox franchise records.
That’s how often he’s done something historic lately.
Since the beginning of August, Bogaerts has either tied or broken several Sox records. The latest came on Monday when he notched his ninth consecutive multi-hit game, tying the record set by Roy Johnson in 1934 and matched by Jim Rice and Kevin Youkilis. Bogaerts also now has the longest active multi-hit streak in the Majors.
Last week, Bogaerts’ sixth career grand slam set a new record among Sox shortstops. Prior to that, he became the second Sox player ever to hit 300 doubles before turning 30 and the 25th player in MLB history with 150 HR and 300 doubles before turning 30. The week before that, he became the ninth Sox player to hit 150 home runs for the Sox before turning 30.
Bogaerts came into Monday’s game in the American League‘s top-ten and top-five in several offensive categories, including AVG (2nd), doubles (T-2), OBP (4th), WAR (5th), runs (6th), and OPS (9th). He’s already doubled more than last season and could finish the season with the batting title.
For the umpteenth time, this is the guy to pay.
David Ortiz deserves all criticism for controversial new sports partnership
David Ortiz became a hero after the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, which makes his decision to partner with Saudi-funded LIV Golf so disappointing.
