Franchy Cordero left Monday’s Red Sox game with a leg injury
Whenever the Boston Red Sox seem to find some momentum, a new injury seems to stop them in their tracks.
On Monday afternoon, Franchy Cordero attempted to catch a Randy Arozarena wall-ball double in left field. Unfortunately, the spikes of his cleats got stuck in the wall padding, impeding a clean dismount. He tumbled to the ground and struggled to stand up on the warning track, making it clear that something was very wrong.
Once manager Alex Cora and a trainer came out to check on him, it was clear that not only did he need to leave the game, but that he was unable to walk off on his own. After being supported on each side and hobbling slowly, the cart came out to drive him off the field. Rob Refsnyder replaced him in the outfield.
The Red Sox Injured List has stayed full for most of the season. Currently, Kutter Crawford, Nick Pivetta, and Nathan Eovaldi could return this season. Tanner Houck, Josh Taylor, Chris Sale, and James Paxton won’t pitch again this year (Taylor and Paxton never did). Eric Hosmer may soon move from the latter group to the former.
Cordero’s official diagnosis is unclear, but the consensus seems unanimous: not good.
