Christian Vázquez’s social media strongly hints that he misses the Red Sox

Is Christian Vázquez holding out for a reunion with the Boston Red Sox?

Nearly a month after being traded to the Houston Astros the day before the deadline, his Twitter bio is still covered in remnants of his former team. His profile picture is him and his family at Fenway, and his cover photo shows him and his Sox teammates. His bio reads:

"“1x World Series Champ @redsox Catcher for the Boston Red Sox Trust in God and love my Family and my Job. Instagram 1990colo”"

And it’s not that he’s an infrequent social media user, either, like former teammate Jake Diekman, another player traded at the deadline, who still has “Bullpen member for Boston Red Sox” in his Instagram bio and wears his Sox uniform in his profile pic.  Vázquez logged on as recently as this week, to retweet the Houston Astros when they wished their new catcher a happy birthday.

But Vázquez also remains in close contact and support of the Sox. Days after his trade, he shared a MiLB tweet when Michael Wacha’s rehab start turned into the first no-hitter in WooSox history.

And, on the day of the trade, he retweeted several media members and fans wishing him well and expressing their upset at the roster move.

Vázquez knows who he plays for now, but it’s clear he’d like to come home. After all, he was the longest-tenured member of the organization until this month, having been selected in the 2008 Draft.

Unfortunately, knowing how Chaim Bloom operates, it’s hard to see the Sox circling back to their longtime catcher. Even if they do, they’ll definitely have competition. Good catchers are hard to come by, so Vázquez will have plenty of suitors this offseason.
