Nathan Eovaldi won’t make scheduled start as Red Sox try to prevent further injuries
The entire Boston Red Sox season feels like one step forward, two steps back. Whenever they get on a roll, someone gets hurt.
On Wednesday night, amidst a somewhat stressful win over the Pittsburgh Pirates (welcome, Jeurys Familia), Alex Speier reported that Nathan Eovaldi wouldn’t make his scheduled start in Thursday’s series finale due to some soreness in his neck and shoulder area.
It sounds like the Sox are hoping it’s only one game out of the schedule, but Eovaldi’s injury history, coupled with the avalanche of injuries to his teammates this season (especially pitchers), any concerns are more than justified.
Eovaldi says he feels like he could pitch through it, which shouldn’t surprise anyone who watched him throw nearly 100 pitches in relief in Game 3 of the 2018 World Series and then ask his manager if he could still make his scheduled start in Game 4.
"“I feel I feel like I could pitch [Thursday], but we’re playing it safe. I’m just going to skip this turn and be ready to go Tuesday against Toronto.”"
Thankfully, the Sox are playing it safe. They need him more against the formidable Toronto Blue Jays than the “hodgepodge of nothingness” Pirates, anyway. No offense.

Boston Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez didn't mince words when discussing Fernando Tatis Jr.'s PEDs suspension, saying the young superstar has no excuse.
