Red Sox Target #2: Brad Hand

Brad Hand is currently a relief pitcher for the Phillies and he’s is having one heck of a season. He has appeared in 26 games but has only pitched 18 and 1/3 innings.

He’s recorded 20 strikeouts in the bullpen. The two best things going for Hand right now are his ERA and his WHIP.  Right now on the season, he has an ERA of 1.96 while his WHIP is at a 1.309.

For those that do not know what WHIP is, It is walks and hits per innings pitched. That means he is allowing almost only one base runner. He keeps runners off the base paths, which in return means not allowing runs.

Hand doesn’t have a defined role in the Phillies bullpen but his efforts don’t go unnoticed. Though he isn’t their closer or in a specific spot in the relief efforts, he’s still going out and getting the job done. If he was to come to Boston, he could instantly be named their closer and take a prominent role in the Sox bullpen.

I personally have wanted to see Hand in Boston and they could definitely use him in the bullpen even if it’s not as a closer. You could say he would be a helping hand.
