MLB Opening Day is nearly here! After a tumultuous offseason, we can finally get back to baseball. Here’s how to stream the Boston Red Sox in 2022.

2022 Boston Red Sox Preview

Last season, Boston went 92-70 en route to a Wild Card berth. The Sox nearly defeated the Astros in the ALCS, but fell short in six games.

While there was plenty of talk and speculation regarding Boston’s rotation needs, the Red Sox didn’t make any moves for a big-name hurler. Instead, they inked former Colorado shortstop Trevor Story to a six-year, $140-million deal.

Story moves to second base and will be added to the middle of a lineup that already features Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers and JD Martinez. So there won’t be any fall-off from the offense that was third-best in baseball a year ago.

To start the season, Boston’s rotation features Nate Eovaldi, Nick Pivetta, Tanner Houck, Michael Wacha and Rich Hill. Eovaldi is what he is – a solid no. 2 starter and a clutch arm. Pivetta finished the season strong and will look to retain that momentum. Houck will need to continue to develop his stamina to be an effective starter longterm. Wacha is a veteran arm, but he’s struggled mightily over his last three seasons. He’s 10-16 over that span and never logged an ERA below 4.76 in those seasons. Hill, at 42-years-old, continues to defy Father Time. When healthy, he’s been incredibly effective.

Chris Sale likely won’t be ready to return from his rib injury for a month or two and James Paxton was a cheap signing that the Sox are hoping can get healthy and provide innings down the stretch.

Outside of the starting rotation, eyes will be on closer Matt Barnes. Barnes struggled last season and it appears will be on a short leash (or part of a committee) in 2022.
